In the midst of these uncertain times, many of us are hungry for information - information that can inform our decisions, help us process what we're experiencing, and connect us with those around us.
The Professional Well-Being Committee is working to gather such resources and make them available to our members. Here you will find articles, videos, and reflections that will bolster our resilience and strengthen our practice in the days and weeks ahead.
If you or your Community of Practice has a resource that you would like to submit to share with our members,
please email

Mindfulness meditation has been shown to give patients control over their own depression and anxiety levels and can cut the recurrence of depression. Recent discoveries in neuroscience both confirm many practitioners' experiences, and give direction to developing therapeutic interventions. This webinar will be facilitated by

I made my first trip to Kanuga in the fall of 1995. I met with my first certification committee as I was going up for member. I was dressed in a 3-piece suit. I had my audiotaped session of the client that I was presenting. I was ready. GAPC had prepared me well for the moment. What I was not prepared for was what happened next. I walked into room where my committee awaited me with open arms and warm smiles. Each was dressed casually; two wearing shorts, one wore blue-jeans and the only woman wore a casual and comfortable dress. Three significant moments.

John Gillman |
ACPE Certified Educator
John Gillman published his book, "What Does the Bible Say about Life and Death?" The book examines the desire to live an abundant life and to have a good death as a contemporary aspiration in the twenty-first century. In dialogue with the rich
scriptural traditions, this resource addresses that desire as well as the complexities around such pressing issues as martyrdom, suicide, and life after death.

Writing about a vision for the Foundation for ACPE in days like ours is a bit like planning to ride dressage on a bucking bronco. There is a particular course we want to take towards goals that are in principal achievable, but our ride has a mind of its own, and it is not amenable to precision guidance.
Our ride, in our case, is not equestrian but financial, and though we have been through some profound ups and downs in the value of ACPE's endowment this past year, the turbulence and losses induced most recently by the COVID-19 pandemic are truly disorienting. However, even though the novel circumstances (to understate the matter a wee bit) bring both uncertainty and constraint to our near-term planning, the long term fundamentals of who we are, what we do, and where we are going remain constant.

In a time such as this, to what do we cling? And of what do we let go? Perhaps more to the point, to what must we cling, and to what must we let go? As the world seems to change around us and as we depend even more on technology to connect, Jan Richardson reflects beautifully on this practice:
Do not pass by
the opportunity
to lament
what is forever gone
from here.
It is an honoring
of what has been.
It makes room
for what
may be-
the life you cannot imagine
from here, in this place
where you can barely
plan two minutes
at a time.
-Jan Richardson

For those who need some distraction, the New York Times curated the following list of podcasts that are worth your time. Some may be familiar; others brand new. Either way, for those that need some brain food, here you go:
If you just need a good laugh, give a listen to this bloke who usually is the commentator for English rugby, but, without a game to call, has resorted to offering commentary on daily life. You have to love human resilience and creativity:

April 2
Rama Navami (Hinduism)
Celebrates the birthday of Rama, king of ancient India, hero of the epic Ramayana, and seventh incarnation of Vishnu. This day marks the birth of Rama, a divine figure in Hinduism who is referred to as Maryada Purushottama, or "the perfect man." Rama's birthday is celebrated with evening processions of murtis, Hindu symbolic figures, and drinking panakam, a sweet drink made of jaggery and pepper.
April 5
Palm Sunday (Christianity)
Observed the Sunday before Easter to commemorate the entry of Jesus into Jerusalem. It is said that a crowd greeted Jesus by carpeting his path with palms, as the palm is a symbol of triumph and victory. In many churches, palm leaves are distributed to all worshipers.
Quingming (Confucianism)
Quingming is a celebration to remember ancestors and to tend to their grave sites. Some leave offerings at graves, such as food, tea and other libations. Willow branches are often carried or hung outside doors to ward off evil spirits.
April 6
Mahavir Jayanti (Jainism)
Mahavir Jayanti, the most important holiday in Jainism, celebrates the birth of Mahavira, the last Tirthankara. A Tirthankara is a human being who achieves enlightenment and becomes a role-model and teacher. On this day, Jain temples are decorated with flags, and lectures are often held to discuss the path to virtue. Special ceremonies and processions are also performed, and devotees make offerings of rice, fruit, milk, and other items to those participating in the procession.
