General Convention
In 1785, the first General Convention of the Episcopal Church was held in Philadelphia and since then it has been the major legislative and decision-making body of the Episcopal Church. It currently meets every three years and consists of two groups: the House of Bishops and the House of Deputies.
The House of Bishops includes all Bishops, both retired and active, while the House of Deputies includes four laypersons and four clergy from each diocese. While both houses meet and vote separately on the same issues, there must be a general consensus reached before a resolution or piece of legislation can be passed.
In between General Conventions, another group called the Executive Council is charged with implementing the various programs and policies adopted at each General Convention throughout the Church. This Executive Council is an elected body of bishops, priests, deacons, and laypersons.
By the time you read this, the 81st General Convention, held this past week in Louisville, KY (Sunday, June 23 – Friday, June 28) will have wrapped up and entered the history books. The event kicked off on Saturday evening, with a “Revival” service featuring diverse and joyous worship, and the enthusiastic preaching of Presiding Bishop Michael Curry.
Perhaps the most noteworthy news to come out of this year's convention was the election of our 28th presiding bishop, the Rt. Rev. Sean Rowe. Rowe is currently bishop of both the Diocese of Northwestern Pennsylvania, and the Diocese of Western New York. He will begin his nine-year term as our presiding bishop beginning November 1.
Just a few of the resolutions this time around included ones on creation care (with a related addition to the Baptismal Covenant), the creation of an independent Reparations Fund Commission, advocacy for access to gender affirming care for all, resolutions concerning Palestine and Israel, work towards full communion with the United Methodist Church, and revision/amendment of the Book of Common Prayer (1979), among others. There were roughly 356 resolutions in all.

Gracious Father, we pray for thy holy Catholic Church. Fill it with all truth, in all truth with all peace. Where it is corrupt, purify it; where it is in error, direct it; where in any thing it is amiss, reform it. Where it is right, strengthen it; where it is in want, provide for it; where it is divided, reunite it; for the sake of Jesus Christ thy Son our Savior. Amen.
A Prayer for Clergy and People (Book of Common Prayer, p. 817)
Almighty and everlasting God, from whom cometh every good and perfect gift: Send down upon our bishops, and other clergy, and upon the congregations committed to their charge, the healthful Spirit of thy grace: and, that they may truly please thee, pour upon them the continual dew of thy blessing. Grant this, O Lord, for the honor of our Advocate and Mediator, Jesus Christ. Amen.

FREE PILATES CLASS CONTINUES MONDAYS AT 6:00 p.m.
Pilates class is back in session! Please join us on Monday evenings at 6:00 p.m. for a fun, all levels Mat Pilates class. All are welcome; no experience necessary. Bring a yoga mat and a towel (hand or dish towel size, or larger). We meet in the Chapel. Marcia will be there at 5:30 p.m. for anyone who has questions about specific exercises in the class or needs exercises or modifications to help with back, shoulder, or knee pain or any other condition. BIBLE STUDY IN ENGLISH
Due to the repairs in the church, we will have to reschedule the bible study in English and we will be starting again in September or sooner if we have access to the library.
ASCENSION COUNCIL MEETING
The next Ascension Council Meeting will be on July 15th at 7:00 p.m. via zoom. If you would like to make a presentation during the meeting let Padre Javier know.
THE MEN’S SHELTER LUNCH PROGRAM
The Men’s Shelter lunch program provides bagged lunches for homeless men. Lunches are assembled in the Parish Hall once a month. Generous Ascension members donate the supplies. Depending on the season, we provide 40 to 80 lunches each month. The next program is July 21, at 9:00 a.m. Come to the Undercroft and help make the sandwiches and bagged lunches. And please consider providing supplies, even if you can’t be there to help with the bagging. For information, contact Edith at esekasi@gmail.com
MAINTENANCE WORK AT ASCENSION
Attention Ascension family! The main church will be undergoing maintenance work for the next few weeks. The office will be open but if you must come during the workweek (Monday through Friday) during office hours, please call and let our office administrator Julie know. Convención General
En 1785, se llevó a cabo la primera Convención General de la Iglesia Episcopal en Filadelfia y desde entonces ha sido el principal cuerpo legislativo y de toma de decisiones de la Iglesia Episcopal. Actualmente se reúne cada tres años y está formada por dos grupos: la Cámara de Obispos y la Cámara de Diputados.
La Cámara de Obispos incluye a todos los obispos, tanto jubilados como activos, mientras que la Cámara de Diputados incluye a cuatro laicos y cuatro clérigos de cada diócesis. Aunque ambas cámaras se reúnen y votan por separado sobre los mismos temas, debe alcanzarse un consenso general antes de que se pueda aprobar una resolución o pieza legislativa.
Entre Convencion General y Convencion General, otro grupo llamado el Consejo Ejecutivo tiene la tarea de implementar los diversos programas y políticas adoptados en cada Convención General en toda la Iglesia. Este Consejo Ejecutivo es un cuerpo electo de obispos, sacerdotes, diáconos y laicos.
Para cuando lean esto, la 81ª Convención General, celebrada la semana pasada en Louisville, KY (domingo, 23 de junio - viernes, 28 de junio), habrá concluido y entrado en los libros de historia. El evento comenzó el sábado por la noche, con un servicio de "Avivamiento" que presentó un culto muy diverso y gozoso, y la entusiasta predicación del Obispo Presidente Michael Curry.
Quizás la noticia más notable de la convención de este año fue la elección de nuestro 28º obispo presidente, el Rvdo. Sean Rowe. Rowe es actualmente obispo de dos Diócesis, tanto de la Diócesis del Noroeste de Pensilvania como de la Diócesis del Oeste de Nueva York. Comenzará su mandato de nueve años como nuestro obispo presidente a partir del 1 de noviembre.
Solo algunas de las resoluciones de esta vez incluyeron aquellas sobre el cuidado de la creación (con una adición relacionada al Pacto Bautismal), la creación de una Comisión Independiente de Fondos de Reparaciones, la defensa del acceso a la atención de afirmación de género para todos, resoluciones relacionadas con Palestina e Israel, el trabajo hacia la plena comunión con la Iglesia Metodista Unida, y la revisión/enmienda del Libro de Oración Común (1979), entre otras. ESTUDIO BIBLICO EN INGLES

PROGRAMA DE COMIDAS DEL ALBERGUE PARA HOMBRES
El programa de almuerzos del Albergue de Hombres proporciona almuerzos en bolsas a los hombres sin hogar. Los almuerzos se preparan en el Salón Parroquial una vez al mes. Los generosos miembros de Ascensión donan las provisiones. Dependiendo de la temporada, proporcionamos entre 40 y 80 almuerzos al mes. El próximo programa es el 21 de julio, a las 9:00 a.m. Ven al sótano y ayuda a preparar los bocadillos y los almuerzos en bolsas.
