Wait, you want me to USE Realm?

Yes, we have Realm not just for use by the clergy and staff, but specifically for you, the members and lay leaders.

In an effort to foster growth and connection in our parishes, the diocese sought tools that would enable not only the clergy to have a member management tool, but something that has utility for members as well. A tool that makes conversations possible outside of Sundays. A tool that empowers members to become lay leaders by gathering others who have similar interests into new ministries. It empowers lay leaders to reach out to members who have gifts that align with their ministry to share their talents. Realm is that tool, and we are inviting every member to embrace it as part of our church life.

Realm is designed specifically for churches. It is not a public social network, nor is it open to anyone outside of our community. Instead, it provides a safe and private space where you can communicate with fellow parishioners without sharing your personal contact information. You decide what others can see, and you remain in full control of your privacy (https://help.acst.com/en/realm/how-to/profiles). Realm simply gives us a way to stay connected in real time.

Once you sign in, you will find that Realm makes communication within the parish much easier. Group members can talk with one another through messages, posts, and receive notifications. Lay leaders can share updates quickly when plans change or information needs to be distributed. But we have email lists in our personal email, you might be thinking. But does everyone in the group have that list? As members come and go, are you and everyone else keeping the list properly updated? Realm takes care of it for you as members join and leave groups. It also helps protect against possible scams. Since you are using Realm to connect, if you get a personal email claiming to be your Rector asking you for gift cards, you don't need to think twice about it being a scam; YES, it's a scam!

Realm allows leaders to organize their groups, set schedules, coordinate volunteers, and share plans for upcoming events. They can even create events within their groups, invite members to RSVP, list items needed, and attach files for everyone to review beforehand. Members receive notifications by email, in‑app alerts, or text, making it simple to stay informed.

Realm also helps you discover opportunities for fellowship and ministry. Through the Find Groups feature, you can explore groups that match your interests or spiritual needs and request to join them. Consider it an online, ongoing ministries fair. It's a gentle way to learn more about what is happening in the parish and to connect with others who share your passions, which can help new members.

Volunteer scheduling in an option as well. Realm allows lay leaders to see serving preferences and scheduling conflicts, which helps avoid overtasking a volunteer and makes planning smoother. Additionally, volunteers can request a schedule change with another person through the system ensuring events, including Sunday services, run smoothly.

PILATES CLASS – MONDAYS 6:00 P.M.

Join us for our weekly Pilates class every Monday at 6:00 p.m. in the Parish Hall. This is a great opportunity to start or continue your Pilates journey in a welcoming and supportive environment. We focus on fundamentals at a steady pace, making it perfect for beginners and experienced participants alike. Bring a yoga mat and be part of our community! CONFIRMATION/RECEPTION -- If you, or a member of your family, is interested in either being confirmed or received into the Episcopal Church, please let Padre or Rev. Tracey know. Classes will start in January and the Bishop will confirm or receive candidates in February 2027 when she visits but we would like to start a list now to have an idea of how many people are interested.

BACKPACKS FOR LINKAGES TO LEARNING

It's that time of year again! As a church, we have the opportunity to help students at Summit Hall Elementary School start the new school year with the supplies they need to succeed. We are once again collecting school supplies for the Linkages to Learning program, which serves children and families in our community. If you're able to help, please pick up a supply list in the narthex or visit the Ascension website. Don't feel like you have to buy everything on the list, every notebook, box of crayons, pencil, or backpack makes a difference. Simply give what you can. Please bring your donations to church by Sunday, August 16. Thank you for helping us share God's love.

Parish Life is starting a new crafting event! Sessions will be held on the second and third Saturdays of the month until the end of the year. Join us in Room 1 from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM. PLEASE WELCOME OUR NEW PARISH ADMINISTRATOR SOLANGE TOURA GABA

We are very excited to welcome Ascension’s new Parish Administrator. Solange, pronounced “So-longe,” comes to Ascension after a career in government working for the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR). She brings many skills to her new position and we are very happy that she has joined the Ascension team. Solange has lived all over the world. She was born in Germany, and has lived in France, Chad and spent a year in Afghanistan working for SIGAR. In her free time she likes to go to the gym, teach swimming to kids, listen to music and watch British mysteries. In addition to welcoming Solange, the rest of the Ascension staff would like to give a giant THANK YOU to all the wonderful volunteers who have staffed the office during the transition period and have kept the office running smoothly. We appreciate and are so grateful for each and every one of you!!

THE MEN’S SHELTER LUNCH PROGRAM

The Men’s Shelter lunch program provides bagged lunches for homeless men. Lunches are assembled in the Parish Hall once a month. Generous Ascension members donate the supplies. Depending on the season, we provide 40 to 80 lunches each month. The program takes place every month; our next one is August 16 at 9:00 a.m. Come to the Undercroft and help make the sandwiches and bagged lunches. And please consider providing supplies, even if you can’t be there to help with the bagging.

Esperen, ¿quieren que USE Realm?

Sí, tenemos Realm no solo para el uso del clero y del personal, sino específicamente para ustedes: los miembros y líderes laicos.

En un esfuerzo por fomentar el crecimiento y la conexión en nuestras parroquias, la diócesis buscó herramientas que le permitieran no solo al clero contar con una herramienta de gestión de miembros, sino algo que también fuera de utilidad para los feligreses. Una herramienta que hiciera posibles las conversaciones más allá de los domingos. Una herramienta que empodere a los miembros a convertirse en líderes laicos reuniendo a personas con intereses similares en nuevos ministerios. Les da la facultad a los líderes laicos de buscar a miembros cuyos dones coincidan con su ministerio para compartir sus talentos. Realm es esa herramienta, y estamos invitando a cada miembro a adoptarla como parte de nuestra vida parroquial.

Realm está diseñado específicamente para iglesias. No es una red social pública ni está abierta a personas fuera de nuestra comunidad. En su lugar, ofrece un espacio seguro y privado donde puedes comunicarte con otros feligreses sin compartir tu información de contacto personal. Tú decides qué pueden ver los demás y mantienes el control total de tu privacidad (https://help.acst.com/en/realm/how-to/profiles). Realm simplemente nos da una forma de mantenernos conectados en tiempo real.

Una vez que inicies sesión, verás que Realm facilita mucho la comunicación dentro de la parroquia. Los miembros de los grupos pueden hablar entre sí a través de mensajes y publicaciones, y recibir notificaciones. Los líderes laicos pueden compartir novedades rápidamente cuando los planes cambian o cuando se necesita distribuir información. Estamos muy entusiasmados de darle la bienvenida a la nueva Administradora Parroquial de Ascension. Solange viene a Ascension tras una trayectoria profesional en el gobierno, trabajando para la Inspección General Especial para la Reconstrucción de Afganistán (SIGAR por sus siglas en inglés). Ella aporta un gran bagaje de habilidades a su nuevo puesto y nos alegra muchísimo que se haya sumado al equipo de Ascension. Solange ha vivido en distintas partes del mundo. Nació en Alemania y ha vivido en Francia y Chad, además de haber pasado un año en Afganistán trabajando para SIGAR. En su tiempo libre le gusta ir al gimnasio, dar clases de natación a niños, escuchar música y ver series británicas de misterio. Además de darle la bienvenida a Solange, todo el equipo de Ascension quiere dar un enorme ¡GRACIAS! a todos los maravillosos voluntarios que apoyaron en la oficina durante este periodo de transición y permitieron que todo siguiera funcionando a la perfección. ¡Apreciamos y estamos profundamente agradecidos con cada uno de ustedes!

ESCUELA BÍBLICA DE VACACIONES DE ASCENSION 2026

Domingos (10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.): 9 de agosto y 23 de agosto. Dirigida a niños de preescolar a 5.º de primaria. También hay oportunidades de voluntariado para jóvenes de secundaria y preparatoria. Contacto: megandidavi02@gmail.com. 

PROGRAMA DE ALMUERZOS PARA EL ALBERGUE DE HOMBRES

El programa de almuerzos para el albergue de hombres proporciona lonches empacados para hombres en situación de calle. Los almuerzos se preparan en el salón parroquial una vez al mes gracias a las generosas donaciones de insumos por parte de los miembros de Ascension. Dependiendo de la época del año, entregamos entre 40 y 80 almuerzos mensuales. El programa se lleva a cabo cada mes; nuestra próxima cita es el 16 de agosto a las 9:00 a.m. Ven al sótano de la iglesia (Undercroft) y ayúdanos a preparar los sándwiches y empacar los almuerzos. Si no puedes asistir a armar los lonches, por favor considera apoyar con la donación de insumos.
