This Week At Bethel - March 17, 2021
The office is officially open!
New office hours:
Monday-Wednesday, 9am-12pm.

Pastor Dave's office hours:
Monday, 9am-12pm.

During Covid-19, our policy is for all
people to WEAR MASKS and SOCIAL DISTANCE for the duration of any worship/fellowship where we are gathered in person!

Valley Health will begin filling vaccine clinic appointments using the pre-registration list from the Virginia Department of Health. This will allow them to more fairly work from the wait list and will largely eliminate the need to post links.

If you have not yet pre-registered for the COVID-19 vaccine through the VDH, please do so by visiting

Those without internet should call 1-877-Vax-In-VA (877-829-4682) to pre-register.
Join us THIS SUNDAY (March 21 @ 9:30am) for worship via our Facebook page, YouTube channel or the LIVE WORSHIP link on the Bethel website
Pastor Dave offers weekly devotions called "Church Where You Are" for individuals and families. If you are unable to be at worship on Sunday, or if you are simply looking for a weekly family devotional, "Church Where You Are" is located on our Bethel website each week.
God is often at work through the ordinary: ordinary people, ordinary objects, ordinary grace. Through the ordinary, God communicates epiphanies, salvation, revelation, and reconciliation. It is through the mundane that we hear God's quiet voice.

In this devotion for the season of Lent, Jill J. Duffield draws readers' attention to ten ordinary objects that Jesus would have encountered on his way to Jerusalem: dust, bread, the cross, coins, shoes, oil, coats, towels, thorns, and stones. In each object, readers will find meaning in the biblical account of Jesus' final days. Each week, readers encounter a new object to consider through Scripture, prayer, and reflection. From Ash Wednesday to Easter, Lent in Plain Sight reminds Christians to open ourselves to the kingdom of God.

You are invited to purchase this book as a devotion for the Lenten season. We will be using these "objects" each week as part of our virtual midweek worship experiences.

We will offer virtual midweek worship experiences March 17, 24 and 31.

Holy Week begins with Palm Sunday, March 28.

Maundy Thursday is April 1. Good Friday is April 2. Easter Sunday is April 4.

Bethel will be going "in person" OUTDOORS IN BETHEL PARK for worship (weather permitting) beginning Palm Sunday, March 28 (weather permitting). Each Sunday, again weather permitting, worship will be held outside and streamed via Facebook Live at the same time, recorded and uploaded afterwards to YouTube. Were there to be inclement weather we will livestream from the Sanctuary @ 9:30 and record/upload to YouTube afterwards. A decision on "in person" worship will be made by Saturday evening and communicated to the congregation via email, Facebook, and on our website.

We will also hold ALL HOLY WEEK SERVICES OUTSIDE IN BETHEL PARK as well, with the following times:

Maundy Thursday, April 1 @ 7:00pm (also streamed via Facebook Live at the same time and uploaded afterwards to YouTube)
Good Friday, April 2 @ 12:00noon (also streamed via Facebook Live at the same time and uploaded afterwards to YouTube)
Good Friday, April 2 @ 7:00pm (in person only)
Easter Sunday @ 9:30 (also streamed via Facebook Live at the same time and uploaded afterwards to YouTube)

Per the Phase 3 Guidelines for Religious Services, individuals must practice proper physical distancing at all times. So, groups not in the same household would need to maintain the 6' distance even if they are outside.

Please note however:  When outside and able to maintain the physical distance, INDIVIDUALS WOULD NOT HAVE TO WEAR A MASK per the Governor's Executive Order 72.

So, please wear a mask to worship, but if you are able to maintain 6 feet distance you will not be required to wear the mask while we are outside.

Mark your calendar for April 2nd for our Good Friday Returning Thanks. We will gather at church at 9am to come together to meet a need in our community and then break for lunch and then Good Friday service will be at noon. Young and young at heart are all invited to participate (kids are out of school). Stay tuned for more details to come!

“Stand therefore, and fasten the belt of truth around your waist, and put on the breastplate of righteousness. As shoes for your feet, put on whatever will make you ready to proclaim the gospel of peace.” Ephesians 6-14-15
Servant Ideas:
-What ‘shoes’ do you need to put on in order to proclaim the good news? Where can your shoes take you, to minister to those in need in your community?  Consider taking new socks or shoes to a homeless shelter, as these are most needed items for people who are on their feet all day.
- Jill invites us to check out the collection of photographs of Tom Kiefer called El Sueno Americano-

Notice all the confiscated shoes at the 2 minute mark of this video. A migrant might need several pairs of shoes to travel hundreds of miles or more to get to the border. To have their most precious and needed items thrown away by border patrol must be devastating. As we travel our Lenten “journey”, let’s pray for the safety of all the refugees around the world who are on their own precarious journey.
We are collecting food, personal care items and cleaning products for the Lenten food drive through Sunday, March 21st. There is a tote at the back door of discipleship hall for donations.

The Frederick County Social Services Department hopes to gather enough items to fill 15 Easter baskets for the elderly and disabled clients on their caseloads.

Food Items, personal care items, and cleaning items are always welcomed; e.g. peanut butter, breakfast items, coffee, canned meats, spaghetti and pasta, mac and cheese, canned fruits and vegetables, beans, diabetic foods, sugar free juices. Paper products such as paper towels, tissues, toilet paper and personal care items such as shampoo, soaps, and deodorants. Cleaning items are expensive and can be donated, too.

For those who don't like to shop, please consider mailing grocery and Walmart gift cards to Karen Shipp. The money will be used to purchase meat and fresh fruits. Karen's mailing address is 113 Proclamation Drive, Winchester, 22603. Karen will let Kim Williams know of any monetary donations. If you have any questions, please call Karen at 540-667-7677.
CCAP is having an Easter Giveaway on March 27th and they are looking for donations of boxed potatoes, hams, or gift cards to Walmart/Costco.

Donations can be accepted at CCAP Monday through Friday- 9:00 am – 1:00 pm, you can mail them a donation or gift card to 112 South Kent St. Winchester VA 22601 or you can go to their website and donate electronically:
