Worship Update
Just a reminder that masks are required for worship and any other indoor activity at Bethel for both vaccinated and unvaccinated people. Masks must be worn for the entire time that we are indoors. Exceptions are for members of the choir (while singing) and Readers/Prayer Readers while they are speaking.
Worship will be held in Fellowship Hall where we can get better ventilation.
Worship will be more limited but will still include songs and Holy Communion. This will be our standard worship for the foreseeable future, until our county and our nation has a better grasp on the Covid-19 Delta variant.
Throughout this pandemic, we have done the "next right thing." At this point, the next right thing is to take a step back so as best to control the environment for worship and any other activities we offer at Bethel. We pray that this will not be an extended period, but as we have been doing all along, we will faithfully follow CDC guidelines for our county, state, and nation.
Please pray for those who are currently suffering with the new variant of Covid-19 and please encourage everyone you know to get vaccinated!

Sunday's Worship: Care for Creation
This Sunday, October 3, Bethel will highlight the Care of Creation as a theme for our worship, giving thanks for the beauty, complexity, and interconnectedness of our world as a sign of God's love for us and all creatures. We are being asked to consider what challenges our creation is currently facing and what can be faithful and loving responses as people of faith. In keeping with this theme, following worship, our Adult Forum will offer the first of a two-part, two-week conversation called "Climate Change and the Christian Faith" to be led by our own John Gavitt.
We hope you can join us and we invite you to consider bringing friends who might find this conversation meaningful and interesting.

Many thanks to the Mulchnificent 7!
We enjoyed a great workout spreading 45 bags (3 cubic feet each) of mulch. Cliff, Betty, Charlie, Jason, Charlie, John, and John made quick work of trimming shrubs and spreading out mulch. John Gavitt treated us to ice cream at Pack’s. Thanks also to John McAllister (Reading Landscapers) for the load of mulch. It was mulch needed!

Music Ministry News
Adult Choir rehearses on Thursdays at 6:30 pm.
You can support our music ministries through regular giving to the Jones/Joyner Music Fund. Your donations help bless Shenandoah University Scholarship Students, and additional musicians for worship and special events who bless us with their gifts. We have a goal to raise $6000 in this fund by December 1st to enhance special music offerings this fall and into the Christmas season. An anonymous donor has offered to match donations to the Jones/Joyner Fund, up to $1000 through September.
Come be a part of Bethel’s amazing music programs!

The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) has issued a Public Safety Alert to warn the American public of the alarming increase in fake prescription pills containing fentanyl and meth. These counterfeit pills are easy to purchase, widely available, and often contain deadly doses of fentanyl. DEA warns that pills purchased outside of a licensed pharmacy are illegal, dangerous, and potentially lethal. This alert does not apply to legitimate pharmaceutical medications prescribed by physicians dispensed by pharmacists.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, last year more than 93,000 people died of overdoses in the United States, marking the largest number of drug-related deaths ever recorded in a year. Fentanyl, the synthetic opioid most commonly found in counterfeit pills, is the primary driver of this alarming increase in overdose deaths.
DEA agents, in partnership with federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies, have seized record amounts of counterfeit pills containing deadly doses of fentanyl. Officials also report that increasingly, methamphetamine is being pressed into counterfeit pills. Drug traffickers are using fake pills to exploit the opioid crisis and prescription drug misuse in the United States. More than 5 million counterfeit pills have been seized this year. At this unprecedented rate, more counterfeit pills will be seized in 2021 than in the previous three years combined.
