The Fall Job and Internship Fair brings to Hofstra a diverse group of employers - representing a wide variety of career fields - who are seeking candidates to fill full- and part-time positions, and internships. All attendees should be professionally dressed and have plenty of resumes. A list of participating organizations is available at hofstra.edu/career, and will be continually updated.

    Italian Festival 11am-5pm, Memorial Quad. The Italian Experience has grown to be a popular Long Island tradition, celebrating Italy's gifts of culture, education and commerce to America.The festival features food, vendors, handmade crafts, exhibits by cultural organizations, music, dance, poetry and much more for the entire family to enjoy! Each year Hofstra presents an Italian festival, drawing thousands of people from the tri-state area. Unlike any other Italian festival, the Hofstra celebration emphasizes the many Italian contributions to American culture. The festival includes concerts, dancers, singers, native food, wine tasting and craft exhibitions.     Entertainment Unlimited's Free Trip: Bronx Zoo Leaving From Student Center. The Bronx Zoo is located in the Bronx borough of New York City, within Bronx Park. It is the largest metropolitan zoo in the United States, comprising 265 acres (107 ha) of park lands and naturalistic habitats, through which the Bronx River flows.The Bronx Zoo is part of an integrated system of four zoos and one aquarium managed by the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS), and is accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA).

A certified yoga instructor reviews fundamentals while demonstrating proper breathing and stretching techniques. Bring a mat or bath towel, and wear comfortable clothing. Please do not eat two hours before class and avoid wearing any cologne or perfume. Join us and learn the secret of relaxation and stress relief.     Career Center's Interview To Impress 2:30pm, Career Center, Learn the secrets of successful interviews! If you are a student who will be interviewing for full time or part time jobs or summer internships, this is an essential program for you to attend! This workshop introduces you to the different type of interviews and teaches you how to answer questions effectively. This workshop is mandatory for all pride recruiting participants.

    Hofstra Law to Host "Marriage Equality and the Courts" 12pm-2:00 p.m. in room 206. The discussion will feature Theodore Boutrous and Richard Socarides '79, two of the country's leading marriage equality advocates. The discussion will focus on the current state of marriage equality in the courts, the policy debate and the strategy behind the historic challenge to California's Proposition 8. Theodore Boutrous serves as a lead attorney for the American Foundation for Equal Rights, the sole sponsor of the plaintiffs in Perry v. Brown, the federal challenge to Proposition 8. Richard Socarides '79 is President of Equality Matters, a Washington D.C.-based gay rights group. He was previously White House Special Assistant and Senior Advisor to President Bill Clinton, serving as his chief advisor on gay civil rights from 1997-1999.

    9/11 Photo Exhibit: "Hope and Healing" To mark the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks, Hofstra University's Department of Special Collections is currently showing an exhibit of 18 photographs called "Hope and Healing" on the tenth floor of the Joan and Donald E. Axinn Library. The display features images of the devastation and destruction in NYC, as well as photos of memorials set up around Long Island and artistic and community projects done in response to the events of that day. The exhibit, which will run through the month of October, also includes photographs of the daffodil project in Suffolk County and a brick path created in Farmingdale with the names of the 37 Port Authority officers lost that day. The intended effect of the images is to not only have the viewer reflect on that day, but also propel him or her toward a more hopeful future. Free admission. Open to the public during library hours: September - November 27: Monday - Thursday, 8a.m. - midnight; Friday, 8 a.m. - 9 p.m.; Saturday, 9 a.m. - 9 p.m.; Sunday, 10 a.m. - 11 p.m. !

Mack Student Center, North Campus"A Shot of Reality" is a fast paced, in-depth look at alcohol awareness on campus and in life. The cast incorporates audience interaction throughout the show to deliver poignant message infused with comedy. This program addresses issues such as Bing Drinking, Health Risks, Alcoholism, Drunk Driving, Assault, and Alcohol related laws.

    Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Queer/Questioning Support Group 8pm-9pm Brower 202 A LGBTQ only space in which individuals can discuss and share issues that relate to their personal lives as well as their community. This is a safe space, so whatever is said in this meeting will not be shared. These meetings are weekly, same time same place so join us for the very first meeting of the semester!     Are You Prepared? 8:22PM, Plaza Room Middle. With school just starting this is a very stressful time for all of us. Come get prepared with the Sophisticated Ladies of Sigma Gamma Rho Nu Tau Chapter. Also during this event please bring school supplies for our annual Operation Big Bookbag Community Service. The supplies will be donated to the Long Island Council on Alcohol and Drug Dependence for children whose parents are incarcerated.     Gay-Straight Alliance 9pm-10pm Brower 202. A safe space for LGBTQ individuals and Straight allies to engage in open dialogue and discuss key issues that affect both communities.     Gathering in Memory of Dr. Vince Brown The Psychology Department will be hosting a Memorial Gathering for the late Associate Professor Dr. Vince Brown, who died suddenly in August. The Gathering will be held on Friday, September 23rd, from 3-5 pm at the University Club. All members of the Hofstra community will be welcome, including students, faculty administrators, and staff.     September 24: Taking Back Sunday to Join Fall Festival Performers The Long Island band Taking Back Sunday has been added to the "Vibe Live 2011" concert lineup. The "Vibe Live 2011" concert on Saturday, September 24, is one of the major events of Hofstra's Fall Festival, September 23-25, planned for members of the Hofstra community. Other bands scheduled to perform at "Vibe Live 2011" on Saturday, September 24, are: Joan Jett & The Blackhearts, Salt n Pepa, and Rick Ross. The concert is hosted by La La Vasquez Anthony and DJ ENVY. Musical acts subject to change or cancellation without notice.In addition to the music, there will be areas for alumni groups, parents and reunioners to gather, a children's zone with games and activities, fireworks and much more!     Opening Ceremony Burton Silverman: The Humanist Spirit Saturday, September 24, 2-4 p.m. The exhibition Burton Silverman: The Humanist Spirit demonstrates the continuing power of the realist tradition in the 21st century. Through Silverman's use of contemporary realist portraiture, the exhibition examines the commonalities of existence of "everyman". Burton Silverman is known for his ability to carefully balance formal visual elements in his realistic representations as he captures the very essence of his subjects. Ordinary working people, his primary subjects, are elevated to a stature of dignity and importance, which we rarely see, with the individuality of his sitters as well as the universality of their life experiences evident in each canvas.

The 40th Hofstra University Distinguished Faculty Lecture will be presented by Elizabeth M. Glazer of the Hofstra University School of Law. Professor Glazer's lecture, is titled "Sexual Reorientation."

    Hofstra University Office Of The Provost And Senior Vice President For Academic Affairs And The Hofstra University Center For Civic Engagement Present Day of Dialogue VIII: Power, Resistance and Democracy. Wednesday, October 26th, 2011 9:00am to 10:00pm. The Advisory Board of the Center for Civic Engagement (CCE) is inviting the entire Hofstra community to participate in this special day devoted to dialogue, debate and discussion of the issues that face our communities, our nation, and our world.CCE is encouraging members of the Hofstra faculty to propose ideas for panels and/or workshops focusing on a broad array of issues you may be teaching about, researching, or engaged in with your local community. The CCE Board is currently planning the details of Day of Dialogue, and will be meeting shortly to begin finalizing the schedule of events for the entire day. We also ask the faculty to alert students about Day of Dialogue and get them to attend and participate in many of the sessions scheduled throughout the day. Started as an initiative by faculty committed to promoting student involvement in community and public life, CCE opened officially in 2007. We are a university institute designed to educate students in democratic values by actively engaging students as knowledgeable citizens in collaborative partnerships with their campus, local, state, national, and global communities.     In commemoration of the tenth anniversary of September 11, 2001, a National Day of Service & Remembrance, the Long Island Volunteer Center, an affiliate of HandsOn Network, will be hosting a blood drive on Monday, September 19, 2011, at the Nassau County Firefighters Museum from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Due to the impact of Hurricane Irene, blood supply is low and replenishment is critical. The club is inviting other British car clubs to participate in the event, including MG, Austin-Healy, Lotus, Bentley, Rolls-Royce and Aston Martin. George Stephani, who chairs the event, said the club, established in 1973, expects to show 60 Jaguars dating to the 1950s, including the XK 120, 140 and 150, as well as E-Type, XJS, XJ8, XF, XJ and XK.
