Limestone University Graduation

Moved Indoors To Fullerton Auditorium

John G. Rocovich, Jr. To Provide Commencement Address

Limestone University will welcome Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM) founder John G. Rocovich, Jr., as its commencement speaker on Saturday, Dec. 17, at 2 p.m., inside Fullerton Auditorium.

Limestone will confer degrees for 173 graduates from its various programs during the upcoming fall semester commencement. The ceremony was originally scheduled for Saints Field but was moved indoors after this week’s rainfall made Clary Field unavailable for the parking needed at an outdoor commencement.

Including the 218 degrees that were awarded in May of this year, Limestone will graduate a total of 319 students in 2022.

Limestone’s graduation will also be live streamed so family and friends unable to be in attendance can view the ceremony. Click the link below to view the live stream.

A native of Roanoke, VA, Rocovich graduated from Blacksburg High School (VA) in 1963 and attended Virginia Tech, graduating cum laude from the College of Business in 1966. He attended law school at the University of Richmond and earned his juris doctorate and passed the Virginia bar in 1967. Rocovich then entered New York University, where he graduated with his Master of Law in taxation in 1968.

Rocovich returned to Roanoke to establish the law firm Moss & Rocovich. He has been admitted to the bar in Virginia, District of Columbia, U.S. Supreme Court, U.S. Tax Court, U.S. Court of Federal Claims, and the 4th and 8th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals.

To recognize his contributions to Virginia Tech, Rocovich was presented with the Alumni Distinguished Service Award in 2000.

He now serves as VCOM’s Chairman of the Board.

CHAMPIONS!

Esports Program Captures First Team Title

Limestone University now has another championship to add to its resume, this time from one of its newest programs.

The Limestone esports program, still relatively in its infancy, captured its first title recently as its Overwatch 2 team completed an underdog story by defeating Trent University in the Emergents Mideast Division Championship on Friday, December 9.

The tournament was sponsored by the National Esports Collegiate Conference (NECC), which began sponsoring esports events in 2020 and has quickly become a prominent organization.

Each tournament within the NECC splits teams into several skill-based divisions, much like the NCAA. Limestone’s esports squads currently compete in what is the equivalent of the NCAA’s Division II and Division III.

The Overwatch 2 victory marked the first time an esports team from Limestone has won a championship in any division since its inception 2020.
