Dear Fellow Servants of Jesus Christ,

World Communion Sunday is this week! We will be gathering with Christians around the world to remember our Lord's body that was broken and blood that was spilled for our redemption. Many Christians throughout the world will gather in threat of persecution as they eat of the bread and drink from the cup.

The church in China is enduring increasing persecution. Christianpost.com recently reported that the Chinese Communist Party is working to "Sinicize" churches by forcing churches to display devotion to the state and conform to the government's agenda. Yesterday, October 1st was China's National Day. Catholic churches run by the Chinese state were ordered to host events that required Christians to sing the national anthem, pray for the nation and raise the Chinese flag. Crack downs on Christianity have involved Christians being arrested, brutally interrogated and imprisoned.

The Bible is under attacked in China. Not only are Bibles and Christian books being destroyed, but the Bible itself is also being altered. The Chinese government is currently "retranslating" the Bible to make it more Chinese friendly by incorporating quotes from the teachings of Buddhism and Confucianism as well as the writings of President Xi Jinping. The words "Bible," "God" and "Christ" have been erased from classic children's stories, including Robinson Crusoe.

Church ministries are being closely monitored through China's extensive surveillance network that incorporates close to 200 million surveillance cameras across the country. This amounts to approximately one camera per seven citizens. Facial recognition is being used to track Christians and their church involvement. You can learn more about this surveillance system here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pNf4-d6fDoY. Clearly, China resembles an Orwellian state.

As we prepare our hearts to celebrate the Lord's Supper, let us remember to pray for those who suffer for the name of Christ - especially our brothers and sisters in China. For as Paul wrote to the Corinthians, "If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it." (1 Corinthians 12:26)

In Christ's love,
Pastor Jim

The TALK: An Open Discussion About Parenting Today
Join us on Wednesday Nights from 6:30 - 7:30 pm in the Light House Cafe through November 6.

We've all wished that our children came with an instruction manual or handbook. Parenting is wonderful, but also extremely difficult. It only seems to get harder in an age of rapidly changing technology, new pressures, and emerging dangers. We are all trying to figure it out! God may not have given us all the instructions, but He did give us community. The old African proverb "It takes a village to raise a child" is very true. We need all the help we can get, and it is time to pool our collective knowledge and wrestle with these big topics together!

This Fall we are offering a new opportunity for parents to have discussions around the big topics of our day. We are calling it "The TALK". Yes, we will likely discuss the birds and the bees in today's highly sexualized culture, but we are going to talk about much more. This is not a class or a lecture. There will be no workbook. What we will have is some battle worn parents, some coffee and drinks, and some open conversations about the things that really matter to today's parents. Come talk and join the discussion!

A Note from Kathy Seymour about Friendship Dinners:

Dear Friends,

We, here at Saxe Gotha, have been serving some of the mentally ill in our community by hosting a dinner and some kind of faith-based entertainment 6 times a year for 25 years.  These folks have become our friends, thus the name Friendship Dinners.

Our guests/friends love to come and get a warm welcome, hugs, conversation, a wonderful dinner and entertainment. Most of them live on a very tight budget and can barely afford to buy their medications, let alone entertainment.

We are looking for a group or individual performer, who specializes in music, drama or dancing and would be interested in volunteering to help us make life a little happier for our Friends.  A short 20 to 30 minute program is best.  Upcoming dates are October 18 and December 6.

Please contact Kathy Seymour at 4kathys@gmail.com or 803-920-7385.
Stretch and Balance for Seniors and Beginners:
