Dear Fellow Servants of Jesus Christ, Jim casual 8-2014

Mother's Day confronts us with an array of emotions.  For those who have been blessed with dedicated, godly mothers, Mother's Day brings celebration and fond memories.  But, for those who experienced a dysfunctional home, struggled with infertility or are grieving the loss of a loved one, Mother's Day offers little but pain, sadness and disappointment.  Indeed, for some, Mother's Day becomes a day to dread and suffer through.  Mother's Day in a sinful, broken world can be terribly tough.

As a church family, we need to be mindful that not everyone experiences Mother's Day the same way.  The Apostle Paul tells us to "rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn" (Romans 12:15).  This, of course, requires that we focus, not on ourselves, but on others.  And, as we do, we may find that the Lord will want to use us to walk through some difficult places with those hurting and offer them encouragement and support.

Yet the importance of motherhood still needs to be uplifted and celebrated.  It is a precious gift from a loving God, even though sinful human beings have corrupted it and the brokenness of this world caused it to be difficult and painful.  Through God's design for motherhood, children are brought into the world, loved, nurtured and mature into the fullness of Christ.  Through motherhood, God intends to bring great joy to the home and the lives and memories of our children.  Motherhood founded on the firm foundation of Jesus Christ, brings happiness and stability, not only to the family, but also our society.  Motherhood, in conjunction with fatherhood, is the means God has established to transmit the faith from one generation to another.

When I was growing up, we all used Pittsburgh-based Heinz ketchup and the "57 Varieties".  The founder of the company Henry J. Heinz stated in his will:

"Looking forward to the time when my earthly career will end, I desire to set forth at the very beginning of this will, as the most important item in it, a confession of my faith in Jesus Christ as my Savior. I also desire to bear witness to the fact that throughout my life, in which there were unusual joys and sorrows, I have been wonderfully sustained by my faith in God through Jesus Christ. This legacy was left me by my consecrated mother, a woman of strong faith, and to it I attribute any success I have attained."

We here at Saxe Gotha pray that our moms will have a happy Mother's Day.

In Christ's love,
Pastor Jim

TABLES OF 8: Fellowship Opportunity
Get to know others in the church, build new friendships, and enjoy a monthly meal at someone's home. By participating in this unique small group ministry; we are following in the footsteps of Jesus who so often enjoyed meals with his friends. It's as simple as that-the simple act yet enriching experience of sitting down together over a meal and building community.

A Table of Eight grouping is assigned for a three-month session (June, July, August). Deadline for the spring session is May 14th. How it works: The Adult Ministries team will group eight people from those who sign up. If a couple signs up, they are counted as two of the eight. Each Table of Eight decides the day and time they'll meet.  Hosting is rotated among the group. The host is responsible for the main dish and beverages, and the remaining members bring the rest of the meal, e.g. appetizer, salad and bread, vegetable, and dessert. Contact:  Helen Harrison Coker at hcoker@saxegotha.org

Missionaries:  Jeff and Heather Ladine will be with us on home assignment from September until January. They need a 2-3 bedroom house or apartment and a car to use while they are here. They are able to pay some rent (max of $800/ month).  Along with Jordy, they are looking forward to reconnecting with us and would appreciate any help you can provide.  If you have an idea, please contact Bill Andress at billandress@aol.com .
