Dear Fellow Servants of Jesus Christ, Jim casual 8-2014

The twelve members of our Belize team arrived safely home Monday evening after a fruitful week of ministry in the village of Maya Mopan and on a banana plantation. The team conducted a morning session of Vacation Bible School (VBS) for approximately 130 children in the village and an afternoon session for roughly 50 children on the plantation. The lessons included creation, the fall, flood and Jesus's conversation with Nicodemus. The gospel of Jesus Christ was clearly presented through drama, crafts, singing and lessons. A big thank you to our Saxe Gotha students who provided the artwork and assembled the craft kits needed for the dramas and crafts!
While every member of the team was invaluable to the effectiveness of this trip, I would like to especially thank Eve Barker for organizing and leading the team and Gina Paredes for creating and presenting the VBS lessons. In case you haven't met Gina, she is a native of Colombia, South America who teaches Spanish in the Lexington One School District.  God used her heart for children, together with her language skills, to present the gospel in a wonderfully relevant way. I am also proud of all the other members of the team who stepped out of their comfort zones to willingly engage in the various aspects of this mission. Everyone did their part and did it well!
On Sunday morning, we gathered for an enjoyable worship experience in Maya Mopan. During the worship, we uplifted the importance of being the family of God. Rebecca Flanagan and Bootsie Wynne shared how the Saxe Gotha church family faithfully walked with them through their husbands' untimely deaths. Both the children and the youth of Maya Mopan participated in the service and displayed their love for Christ through joyful songs. Afterward, we were treated to a delicious fried chicken lunch at Pastor Benito's home. What a blessing to worship with such dear brothers and sisters in Christ!
Thank you for your prayers and financial support that made this mission trip possible! God used you to help share the good news of Jesus Christ!

In Christ's love,
Pastor Jim

Fall Sermon Series & Small Groups:
"We Were Made for Relationships." Starting September 9, we will begin a 6-week study "40 Days of Love" by Rick Warren. We would like to put together a list of small group leaders and locations, much like we did for "40 Days in the Word" a few years ago. Please let Helen Harrison Coker know if you are able to lead a group: hcoker@saxegotha.org. There is a leaders guide and video lesson for each week, so all you really need is a location (home, office, school) to host a small group.

We will also begin signing up this Sunday for those who would like to participate in a small group.  Please see the bulletin for details.

In today's economy, many individuals are facing the difficult reality of finding a new position or alternative employment. This ministry assists individuals with writing a resume, improving interviewing skills, or providing support as one goes through this time of transition. Stephen Ministry  is our congregation's one-to-one care giving ministry. These connections are confidential and matched up by gender. God works through Stephen Ministers to plant a seed of hope and healing in a person whose life seems barren and forlorn because of crisis or tragedy.  What do Stephen Ministers do?  These individuals listen to people in need, explore feelings, pray, share Christ's love, maintain confidentiality, and attend to the care-giving process, while leaving the results to God.  Stephen Ministers have big hearts.  If you are feeling unloved or need a friend, contact  Carol Perrin  at (803)917-6690 , the referral coordinator.
