**During this time of pandemic, we are not able to come together as a community to share the body and blood of our Lord. You are invited to receive the sacrament spiritually. A spiritual communion is a personal devotional that anyone can pray at any time to express their desire to receive Holy Communion at that moment, but in which circumstances impede them from actually receiving Holy Communion.

Prayer For The Parish
Almighty and everliving God, ruler of all things in heaven and earth, hear our prayers for this parish family. Strengthen the faithful, arouse the careless, and restore the penitent. Grant us all things necessary for our common life, and bring us all to be of one heart and mind within your holy Church; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen (BCP, p. 817)

Tired of the Heat?  Ready for some relief? Join us for a lazy and refreshing plunge into a nice cool river. On Friday, August 7th , Debby and I are planning on tubing down the Chattahoochee River.

Would you and your family like to join us? If so, we will be using Helen Water Park for tube rental. The rental cost is $10 per individual. Here is the link; https://helenwaterpark.com/tubing/

Our plan is to arrive at the Lower Tubing location, located at 685 Brucken St. Helen GA. 30545, by 10 a.m. to rent our tubes and begin our tubing adventure. The ride on the river lasts about 2 hours.

If you are interested in joining us please understand that due to Covid-19 restrictions you will have to provide your own transportation to and from the river. Please let me know if you will be meeting us there!

If you have any questions please contact Fr. Tommy .
FAMILIES ATTEND ST. MATTHEW'S VIRTUAL VBS

This year’s Virtual VBS invited the whole family to participate. VBS consisted of exploring “Godly Joy in Worship,” by creating and enriching a family’s Home Altar Space. Families enhanced their Home Altar Space through the ministries of Altar Guild, Flower Guild, Music, and Bread Guild and learned how to incorporate nature in their Sacred Space. Thank you to all who worked to put this VBS together. To view these videos, check out our StMattsSnellville YouTube videos from the week's activities.

If you were not able to attend or would like to create or enrich your Home Altar Space we have posted all the videos on our website . We also have additional Activity Bags for those interested. Please contact Fr. Tommy to coordinate.
Prayers Requested

Please pray
  • For all those individuals willing to participate in Covid-19 vaccine trials
  • For an end to the pandemic: that the virus will abate in our country and the world
  • For those working to find answers through treatments and vaccines.
  • For those who have died in the pandemic, and for their families
  • For local, state, and federal officials as they make decisions about the current health and economic crisis.
  • For caregivers in hospitals and nursing homes, and healing for those who are sick
  • For our shut-ins and infirm, and all those isolated from loved ones during this pandemic.
  • For an end to the violence and division in our country, and for God's healing hand on our nation.
  • For safety for those protesting injustice, for police and first responders, and for those whose lives and livelihood have been disrupted by violence
  • That God will turn the hearts of mankind to reflect God's love in all they say and do
  • For farmers and all who grow, raise, process and distribute food for our tables, and for food pantries helping to provide for those most in need
  • For migrant farmworkers, among the most vulnerable of the vulnerable, front line heroes who continue to supply our tables.
  • For the homeless, and all those experiencing food or shelter insecurity.

If you have prayer requests you would like included in next week's Messenger, please send them to registrar@stmatthewssnellville.org with the heading For the E-Letter .

Prayer requests can also always be sent to the DOK by contacting Peggy Isaacs or Lynne Kiker , or any DOK member. Prayer requests sent to the DOK are confidential and will not be shared outside the DOK membership without your permission.
SCAM EMAILS TARGET INDIVIDUALS

St. Matthew's has had several instances of scam emails coming to members recently. This problem seems to be increasing in this confusing time of pandemic and uncertainty. You are urged to always verify any email you receive asking for funds or other support that seems out of the norm, by talking directly to the person who is supposedly contacting you via email.
Do not click on any links in the email directly.

Scammers trick you into giving them your money or your personal information. The scammers may appear to be legitimate and may even pose as a person or organization you are familiar with. Sometimes email addresses mimic the sender's address closely, making it difficult to distinguish its validity. Please exercise extreme caution with these emails.

If you have recently received an unusual email from a parish leader requesting gift cards or money it could be part of a scam.

If you think you may have received a scam email , we recommend the following:
  • Carefully check the sender’s name and email address
  • Look out for misspelled words and incorrect grammar
  • Do not click on any suspicious links or attachments
  • Report the email as spam

Reporting A Scam
If you would like to report a scam the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is the main agency that collects scam reports. Report your scam via email or by phone:
1-877-382-4357 (9:00 AM - 8:00 PM, ET) phishing-report@us-cert.gov
File a report to the FTC at ftc.gov/complaint

Parish Financial Update June 30 2020
From Our Treasurer

This is an update on St. Matthew’s financial standing after six months in 2020. The majority of this time was spent with the building being closed and with virtual services. Although we are behind our budget with a $21,606 deficit, our giving has been consistent to cover all bills without having to use our reserve accounts. Thanks to all parishioners for giving during this time so that the church can continue function, and we ask that you continue giving as we go forward.
