Twenty-third Sunday After Pentecost

Thirty Days of Thanks, November 1-30, 2020

“Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God. (Heb 12:28).

Beloved, we are children of God whose kingdom cannot be shaken. So for this month of November, we will give thanks to God for all the blessings of the world around us; for the blessing of friends and family; for the blessing of community; for the blessings found in nature, fresh and new every morning.

Thirty Days of Thanks allows us to move from those events around us over which we have little or no control, to a place of realizing and trusting that God IS in control!

How are you marking these thirty days of Thanks? How can we as God's people turn our thanksgiving into sharing with others in a tangible way?

Here's some of what St. Matthew's is planning this month:
  • Watch our Facebook page for daily scripture verses about giving thanks (see FB Album: 30 Days of Thanks), and spend a few moments each day reflecting on how God is working in your life. We hope you will share some of your own thanksgivings for God's blessings along the way, either on Facebook or in conversations with others. Giving thanks in small things can give us a new perspective on God's abundant goodness, even in difficult times.
  • Check out current Outreach projects here and here, and watch for other ways to serve as they arise. Is there something you're doing to reach out during this season of giving? Please share it with us!
  • Take part in our annual Thanksgiving luncheon, which will still take place but will be "take out" this year. More information on this elsewhere in this newsletter!
  • Check out the printable resources below, or find more by searching the web for 30 Days of Thanks. These are great tools for encouraging children (and grownups!) to notice and reflect on God's blessings.

And don't forget to look for more opportunities to “Give Thanks” in future editions of The Messenger!

Christmas Assistance Program

Once again the Southeast Gwinnett Food Co-Op is offering gift cards as their Christmas assistance program to eligible clients who have minor children living in their household. This small offering will help the heads of house–holds care for their children’s needs and remind them that they have friends walking alongside of them.

You are invited to make a donation in the form of a $25 Walmart gift cardGift cards can be placed in the special collection container before or after all Sunday’s outside services, dropped off at the church parking lot on Saturday afternoons 10/24,10/31,11/7 and 11/14 from 12-2pm or given to Jennifer Papadatos, Cheryl Wheeler, Greg Andrews or Dotty Merrifield. All donations must be submitted by November 16th.

Thank you to all who made donations to the Preschool Supplies Donation Drive this year. Your generosity enables the preschool to carry out its many education crafts and science classes throughout the year.

We Need To Spread This Mulch Around...!
Calling All Helping Hands

One of our faithful parishioners has generously donated 10 cubic yards of hardwood mulch. This mulch will be used to cover the left side gardens. The Gardening Guild needs your help on Saturday, November 14 from 9 to 12. We will need wheelbarrows, pitchforks and shovels, and be sure to wear your gloves.

We can make short work of this project with many hands. Thank you St. Matthew's as we prepare our gardens for the winter season.

Hi everyone,

Mindy and I wanted to thank all of you for contributing your unique talents to this year's Evening Of Remembrance.

It is a meaningful event in the life of our parish, and we feel fortunate to have been able to offer a special version during these difficult times.

It's The People!

Michael and Mindy

Thank you to Michael and Mindy Barringer for their work again this year in putting together our Evening of Remembrance last Sunday, and to all who participated in the virtual service. Thanks also to the Youth of the parish for their work preparing the Meditation Walk under the pines for its part in the evening event.

Please don't hesitate to contact either Mother Liz or Fr. Tommy
if you or your family have need of assistance or counsel.

Prayer For The Parish
Almighty and everliving God, ruler of all things in heaven and earth, hear our prayers for this parish family. Strengthen the faithful, arouse the careless, and restore the penitent. Grant us all things necessary for our common life, and bring us all to be of one heart and mind within your holy Church; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen (BCP, p. 817)

Outdoor Sunday Worship Services
Registration Information, Livestreaming,
Weather And Outdoor Worship

Prior registration on Realm is required for these services for contact tracing purposes.

Register each Tuesday thru Saturday prior to Sunday in Realm. Registration closes at midnight on Fridays.

How Realm Registration Works: When the registration is opened on Tuesday, an email notification goes out to everyone in Realm notifying you of the event (service). The registration will now close at midnight on Saturday night to give the worship team time to plan for and set up the needed seating space on Sunday morning. You can find the registration in Realm by logging into Realm and clicking on EVENTS.

As of this morning 11/6, spaces are still available. If you wish to attend this Sunday in person, please register HERE before registration closes at midnight tonight. Everyone must register, including those participating in the service in any capacity. If you have trouble registering, please email Susan Carson

An email confirming your reservation will be sent on Saturday after registration closes. It will contain a pdf of the bulletin for Sunday, since no paper bulletins will be handed out at the service due to COVID restrictions. You can print that bulletin out and bring it with you, or download it to your phone or tablet for use at the service.

Livestreaming: The service is livestreamed via Christian World Media and can be accessed directly at their livestream link, as well as on our FB page . Facebook Live is proving to be somewhat unstable, so you may find the livestream link a better option.

Cancellation Of An Event: As the seasons change, weather may become an issue some Sundays. If for any reason a service must be canceled at the last minute, those registered to attend that service will be notified via TEXT, and the altar party will move into the sanctuary to film and livestream the service from there. Unfortunately those not in the altar party will be unable to attend the indoor filming if this occurs, as we are not yet set up for indoor worship services under COVID restrictions.

We appreciate your understanding as we work through the challenges that COVID has brought us. Know that many folks are working hard to provide worship that is both meaningful and safe for all.

Please read the full linked documents below if you sign up to attend any outdoor service at St. Matt's in person:
