A Very Merry Celebration!
What a wonderful way to celebrate the holidays with our members at our Holiday Leads Lunch sponsored by Manheim California. We had more than 50 businesses represented at our final networking event of 2022, including Assemblywoman Sharon Quirk-Silva. We filled several boxes with toys and games for Anaheim Police Department’s Cops 4 Kids. Thank you for your support! See you all in January!

Anaheim’s New Mayor and
Three New Council Members Take Office
Yesterday, at the River Arena next to City Hall, Anaheim saw four newly elected officials take the oath of office.
Ashleigh Aitken, an attorney at Aitken Aitken Cohn, became the 48th Mayor of Anaheim.
Carlos Leon, a manager at Contoural, is the new Council Member for District 2, which is the eastern portion of West Anaheim.
Natalie Rubalcava, the chief operating officer of the Orange County Business Council, was sworn in as the new Council Member for District 3, which consists of Downtown Anaheim, the Colony, and northern portions of central Anaheim.
Natalie Meeks, the retired Director of Anaheim Public Works, took office as the new Council Member for District 6, which consists of Anaheim Hills and the Anaheim Canyon.
There is a vacancy in District 4 (the Anaheim Resort and southern portions of central Anaheim), due to Councilman Avelino Valencia being sworn in to the State Assembly (see article below). Council Members Jose Diaz of District 1 (the western portion of West Anaheim) and Stephen Faessel of District 5 (eastern-central Anaheim along the 57 freeway) continue in office.

Anaheim’s Two New Assembly Members and One Fewer Senator as New State Legislative Session Begins
On Monday, the California State Legislature convened its 2023-2024 legislative session. All 80 Assemblymembers were sworn into new two-year terms while half of the 40 Senators were sworn into new four-year terms.
Avelino Valencia (D-Anaheim) took office for the first time as an Assemblyman, representing the new 68th District, which consists of parts of central Orange County, including the portions of Anaheim between the 5 Freeway and the Santa Ana River. He was previously Anaheim City Councilman for District 4 and District Director for his predecessor, Assemblyman Tom Daly of the old 69th District.
Sharon Quirk-Silva (D-Fullerton) enters her fifth term as a State Assemblywoman, now representing the new 67th District, which consists of portions of Los Angeles and Orange Counties, including Anaheim west of the 5 Freeway. Her old 65th District similarly included Anaheim west of the 5 Freeway.
Philip Chen (R-Yorba Linda) was sworn in to his fourth term as an Assemblyman, but now in the new 55th District, which consists of portions of San Bernardino and Orange Counties, including Anaheim Hills. He was previously the three-term Assemblyman for the 59th District, but redistricting drew Chen and Anaheim Hills into the 55th District.
Anaheim’s State Senate legislative delegation shrunk due to redistricting:
Senator Tom Umberg (D-Santa Ana) was sworn in to his second term representing the new 34th District, which includes portions of Los Angeles and Orange Counties, including Anaheim west of Kraemer Blvd. The old 34th District only included portions of Anaheim between the 5 and 57 Freeways.
Senator Dave Min (D-Irvine) of the 37th District continues to represent Anaheim Hills.
Senator Josh Newman (D-Fullerton) of the 29th District, who previously represented most of Anaheim, was drawn into Min’s district.
However, Min and Newman’s four-year terms do not expire until 2024, so they will both continue in office.

A 30-by-60-foot American flag on a 100-foot pole was raised for the first time Wednesday on a piece of land in Anaheim Hills, the most visible marker yet at the site of what county officials and local military veterans hope will become a state-run veterans cemetery.
