California Apartment Association Donates
Plexiglass Protective Shields to Higher Ground

Last Friday the Anaheim Chamber joined Mayor Pro Tem Stephen Faessel and Victor Cao from the California Apartment Association which donated several dozen plexiglass protective shields to the Higher Ground facility at Lincoln Park.
Higher Ground has recently expanded their footprint at the park and its founder, Joe Baldo, showed us the new classrooms. Facilities for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM), Baseball and Soccer, Healthy Meals, After School Programs, Self Esteem, and even Gardening are offered.

In light of the Covid-19 restrictions and safety protocols, the new shields were a welcomed addition. Thanks again to the Apartment Association for supporting this work.

On Saturday, February 27, the Cypress College Foundation will host the 46th Annual Americana Awards, Reunion Year via Live Stream Gala. The 2021 Americana Awards is “The Reunion Year” where they will recognize all former Citizens and Men and Women of the Year. They will also highlight the cities of Anaheim, Buena Park, Cypress, Garden Grove, La Palma, Los Alamitos, Seal Beach, and Stanton.

State Leaders Approve New Relief Package
|
|
|
|
This week, the Legislature and Governor approved a $7.6 billion relief package for Californians experiencing pandemic hardship. The package includes:
- $3.8 billion in Golden State Stimulus direct payments at $600 - $1200 to low-income individuals and families
-
$2.2 billion for small businesses, nonprofits, and cultural institutions for grants up to $25,000
- $1.6 billion in aid to community college students, childcare providers, food and diaper banks, and other essential services, and to restore cuts made last year to UC and CSU

Orange County has launched its third mass vaccination Super POD, at the Anaheim Convention Center, opening a new front in the county’s campaign to protect millions of residents from the coronavirus. The convention center will serve as both a COVID-19 testing and immunization site.

Lack of Vaccine Supply
Cause Temporary Closures at OC Vaccine Sites
|
Disneyland will be open today (February 24) to dispense a second dose of the Pfizer vaccine only to those eligible individuals with appointments. The Disneyland site will close on Thursday, February 25 due to forecasted high winds and will reopen on Friday, February 26, weather permitting.
The Anaheim Convention Center opened yesterday for those with appointments to receive their second dose of the Moderna vaccine.
The State is currently allowing vaccines for Phase 1A and 1B. OC Health will continue scheduling appointments for people eligible under Phase 1A and 1B when the vaccine supply is confirmed. Phase 1A consists of Seniors over the age of 65, healthcare workers, and long-term care residents. Phase 1B consists of food workers, educators, and child care providers.
