Miss Anaheim Scholarship Competition
Right Around the Corner
Fourteen outstanding Teen and 12 Miss candidates will vie for the titles of Miss Anaheim, Miss Anaheim Hills, Miss Canyon Hills, and their respective Outstanding Teen titles on January 21st. The Miss Anaheim Scholarship Competition is a Miss America local program and a preliminary to the Miss California competition!
The Anaheim Ducks Hosting Inaugural
Women in Sports Night
Prior to the Ducks taking on the Arizona Coyotes at 7:30 p.m., the Ducks will host an inaugural Women in Sports Business and Leadership Panel followed by a Speed Mentorship event. Doors for this event will open at 4 p.m., with the panel slated to begin promptly at 4:30 p.m. 
City of Anaheim Committed to Rebuilding Beach Boulevard
Last week crews knocked down the old Covered Wagon Motel which the city closed in March 2022 due to public safety issues. The site will be redeveloped as affordable apartments and townhomes in an effort to rebuild Beach Boulevard.
$22.5 Billion State Budget Deficit
Governor Gavin Newsom proposed a new State budget seeking to close a projected $22.5 billion deficit. The budget is expected to have significant revisions in the Governor's "May Revise" budget, and then the final version passed by the State Legislature in June is expected to have substantial differences from the Governor's proposal. Below are key differences in the Governor's proposed budget for FY 2023-24 (July 1, 2023-June 30, 2024) compared to the adopted FY 2022-23 budget:

  • $500 million reduction in State's offset of federal tax increase for small businesses related to unemployment
  • $40 million reduction over two years for non-traditional apprenticeships
  • $25 million reduction in outreach to employees and businesses in high COVID risk industries
  • $1.3 billion for Medi-Cal and a renewal of the newly-expired Managed Care Organization Tax
  • $50 million reduction for public health workforce training (down to $25.8 million)
  • $1 billion added for grants on homelessness for local government
  • $750 million reduction from payments to federal government for $18.7 billion in the State government's unemployment debt to the federal government
  • $135 million over two years for urban flood risk reduction
  • $6 billion reduction in climate initiatives, including $3.3 from clean transportation
  • $1.5 billion decrease (1.3%) in K-12/community college combined funding after an 8% cost-of-living increase
  • $750 million ongoing increase for community colleges and one-time funding of $200 million
  • 5% increase for UC and CSU, including a $30 million for UC to admit more Californians instead of non-Californians
  • $227 million for Middle-Class Scholarship
  • $1.15 billion postponed for new affordable student housing, leaving $500 million for grants
  • $844 million to expand free health care to low-income undocumented immigrants
  • $350 million reduction from housing programs for first-time homebuyers and affordable housing
  • $1.2 billion reduction for the California Department of Public Health
  • $614 million transferred out of COVID-19 emergency funds into the State's general fund (COVID-19 funding would fall to $176.6 million)
  • 113 California National Guard personnel to fight fentanyl at the Mexican border and throughout California, along with a new fentanyl task force at the California Department of Justice
  • $150 million from closing two correctional facilities and closing wings of six state prisons
  • $11.6 million for body-worn cameras for correctional officers
