(Anaheim Chamber of Commerce) In April, the Anaheim Chamber of Commerce took a "Support" position on SB 592 by Senator Josh Newman (D-Fullerton/Anaheim), and the California Chamber of Commerce declared it a "Job Creator" bill. SB 592 would have protected businesses that act in good faith in relying upon an opinion letter or enforcement policy of the Division of Labor Standards Enforcement (DLSE) and would have required DLSE to translate its materials into non-English languages to assist business owners and employees who do not speak English.
Unfortunately, the bill was defeated in the Senate Labor, Public Employment and Retirement Committee 1-3, with Senator Scott Wilk (R-Santa Clarita) in favor, and Senators Dave Cortese (D-San Jose), John Laird (D-Santa Cruz), and Lola Smallwood-Cuevas (D-Los Angeles) against. The Chamber thanks Senator Newman for supporting small businesses.
