The Anaheim Chamber of Commerce is joining with the Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce and other Orange County chambers to host a State of the County luncheon on Wednesday, July 19, 2023, featuring OC Board of Supervisors Chairman Donald Wagner, OC Supervisor Katrina Foley, and County Executive Officer Frank Kim. The luncheon will be an opportunity for businesses, residents, and government officials to hear from a panel of County officials about the current state of Orange County and plans for our future. |

Chamber Legislation Spotlight: SB 444 (Newman) Develops Math, Engineering, Science, Achievement Programs |

The Anaheim Chamber of Commerce has taken a "support" position on SB 444 by Senator Josh Newman (D-Fullerton/Anaheim). The bill encourages community colleges to develop Mathematics, Engineering, Science, Achievement (MESA) programs for socially, economically, and educationally disadvantaged students, including increasing student transfers to Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) majors at four-year colleges and universities. Businesses are currently struggling to fill STEM jobs and employees with STEM jobs have higher wages and lower unemployment, so MESA programs will help grow the economy by ensuring more people are qualified to fill STEM jobs. After winning passage from the Senate in May, SB 444 was approved by the Assembly Higher Education Committee yesterday and heads to the Assembly Appropriations Committee next. |
