Government Affairs Committee heard from
Deputy City Attorney for Community Prosecutions Mehtab Sandhu
|

|
On Friday, the Anaheim Chamber Government Affairs Committee heard from Deputy City Attorney for Community Prosecutions Mehtab Sandhu, who is tasked with homelessness issues in Anaheim. He presented Anaheim’s multifaceted approach to homelessness, including collaborative courts, a pilot program for homeless problem children (a partnership between the Anaheim City Attorney’s office, the Anaheim Police Department, and the collaborative courts), battling the revolving door of recidivism, and more traditional prosecutions.
The committee had a robust discussion with Mr. Sandhu, covering homeless veterans, the role of conservatorships, the wide range of types of cases involved (trespass, public urination, drugs, repeat offenders), his office located in the Anaheim Police Department, aspirations to expand the homeless problem children pilot program to include the North courthouse in Fullerton and all other courthouses in Orange County, the methods for determining whether a case is referred to Anaheim Police’s Community Care Response Team or to the nonprofit partnership BeWellOC, CARE (Community Assistance, Recovery and Empowerment) courts proposed by AB 2830, drug court, bus routes from other jurisdictions coming to Anaheim, the point-in-time homeless count, and the status of Anaheim’s homeless shelters.

Take Three: Cal/OSHA Revises COVID-19 Emergency Temporary Standards for Third Time |

On April 21, 2022, the Occupational Safety and Health Standards Board approved a third readoption of the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health (Cal/OSHA) Emergency Temporary Standards to replace the current version, which is set to expire on May 6, 2022. Many of the revisions updated or removed definitions, as well as provided for more flexibility within the ETS to address changing circumstances around COVID-19’s spread. |

Vanessa Bryant Unveils Kobe and Gigi "Dream Court" in Anaheim |

The kids of the Pearson Park neighborhood have an awesome new basketball court inspired by basketball great Kobe Bryant and daughter Gianna “Gigi” Bryant. It honors the lives of Kobe Bryant and Gianna Bryant with their names emblazoned at half court. “The Bryant family has always had a special tie to Anaheim,” Mayor Sidhu said. “This court is a lasting legacy of that connection and will introduce a new generation of Anaheim kids to the joy of basketball."
Vanessa Bryant also spent time at Pearson Park as a cheerleader when she attended St. Boniface Catholic School, which closed in 2006. The court is the first basketball court at Pearson Park, Anaheim’s oldest park. It will be used by the Anaheim Family YMCA, the Anaheim STARS program for youth and by neighborhood kids.
