MEMBER SPOTLIGHT

North Orange County ROP provides high-quality career education for post-secondary and adult students, preparing them with the knowledge and experience to graduate workforce ready. Taught by industry-experienced instructors, students learn fundamental principles in the classroom and gain clinical experience through rigorous hands-on training in local businesses, offices, and work-sites. Students are able to confidently earn vital certifications and/or state licensures to meet the demands of current labor markets.

North Orange County ROP adult courses are held at Trident Education Center in Anaheim, CA. Students can enroll in a wide range of career pathways to serve communities in northern Orange County and nearby surrounding communities.

North Orange County ROP is part of the North Orange County Regional Consortium, NOCRC – a collaboration with Anaheim Union High School District, Fullerton Joint Union High School District, Garden Grove Unified School District, Los Alamitos Unified School District, North Orange County Community College District, Orange County Department of Education and Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District. North Orange County ROP courses are accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Schools, Western Association of Schools and Colleges.

New Law Imposes Registration Requirement in 2024 for Businesses Using Single-Use Packaging - Penalties for Violations Range from $50,000 Daily Fine to Bans

The California Chamber of Commerce is rolling out FREE webinars for its local chamber partners and local chamber members addressing the new SB 54 regulations that could significantly impact businesses in 2024. Passed in 2022, SB 54 (Allen) requires all companies selling products in single-use packaging to register with a Producer Responsibility Organization or PRO. This webinar will help keep the business community up to date on how to comply with these new rules.  SB 54 mandates all companies selling products in single-use packaging to register with a PRO. Non-compliance isn't an option: failing to register with a PRO risks a ban and potential fines up to $50,000 per day.

Risks of Rounding: Court Requires Timekeeping to the Minute

California employers often round employee time punches to a portion of an hour — the practice can allow employees leeway when running a few minutes late, and it often simplifies payroll and invoicing. Federal law, California’s Division of Labor Standards Enforcement (DLSE) and California appellate court decisions had long approved of rounding, as long as it was neutral and didn’t work to systematically deny employees their full wages.

U.S. Inflation Falls to 3.2% - Lowest Since March 2021

(CNN Business) According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the national Consumer Price Index rose by only 3.2% in October, the smallest increase since March 2021. The Federal Reserve has been increasing interest rates in an effort to slow down inflation, with a goal of 2%. The CPI had reached 9.1% in June 2022, the highest rate since 1981.
