Government Affairs - Chief Cisneros Visit
Anaheim Police Chief Jorge Cisneros was the guest speaker at our September Government Affairs Committee meeting, where he discussed the challenges facing the Anaheim Police Department and how the APD is responding.

Chief Cisneros highlighted the department’s shifting response to homelessness, especially a greater reliance on specialty-trained social workers to respond to homelessness-related calls for service that do not involve concerns of criminal activity or threats to public safety concerns. This approach allows the police department to focus its energies on criminal activity and crime prevention and freeing up resources for speedier response times.

The chief also noted the department will be putting additional resources into increasing the required training hours for each officer. While current training standards are already substantial, Chief Cisneros believes a stepped-up level of officer training will enhance public safety.

Give the Economy a Shot
As an employer, this is how you can help defeat the pandemic:

  • Share information about where vaccines are available.

Appointments are available at various times and locations throughout Orange County, seven days a week.  Find a COVID-19 Vaccine Provider or call (714) 834-2000.

  • Allow time off from work to obtain a vaccine.

You may be eligible to claim tax credits equal to the wages paid for providing time off to employees to get vaccinated. Learn more about the U.S. Department of the Treasury Paid Leave Credit.

  • Host a vaccine clinic.  Host an information session.

Mobile vaccination services are available for events of approximately 50 people or more. Don’t have 50 people. Coordinate with other local businesses to join in your event.

Applicant’s Workers’ Comp Claim History Can’t Be Used for Screening
Questions - "We work in an industry that is at a higher risk for a workplace injury. In an effort to keep our workers’ compensation costs lower, can we ask if applicants for employment have an active workers’ compensation claim or if they have ever filed for workers’ compensation benefits?"
Strong Demand for Goods; Supply Lagging; Imbalance Keeps Upward Pressure on Prices
The recession is officially over. It ended more than a year ago, but it takes time for the group of economists at the National Bureau of Economic Research, the organization that determines peaks and troughs of a business cycle, to wait for all the revised economic data to formally determine the start and end of recessions.

Flood Insurance Information for Lenders,
Insurance Agents, Business Owners, and Property Owners

With summer in full swing, you may not be thinking of the coming rainy season and the potential for higher than normal rainfall that can cause flooding and property damage. However, anytime is a good time to learn if the commercial, industrial, or residential property in Anaheim that you own or rent is located in a flood zone. The City of Anaheim’s Planning and Building Department has information that can help you determine whether or not your property is in a flood zone, also known as a FEMA Special Flood Hazard Area.

If you are a lender or insurance agent, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) also has specific flood insurance information available to you. Please visit FEMA’s website at http://www.fema.gov/national-flood-insurance-program/information-insurance-professionals for further information.

To view a citywide flood zone map, obtain flood-related information, determine if your property has an Elevation or Floodproofing Certificate, or if you have other flood-related questions, please contact the Planning and Building Department, at (714) 765-5139 or or visit www.anaheim.net/planning.
