Anaheim Mayors Prayer Breakfast
Featuring Rod Carew
Join us for a very special Anaheim Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast with the baseball Hall of Famer and hometown great Rod Carew.
All of us know Rod Carew as one of the greatest hitters in the history of baseball. During the course of his 19-year career with the Minnesota Twins and California Angels, he won seven battle titles – the second most in baseball history behind the legendary Ty Cobb – and racked up 3,053 career hits and a .328 lifetime batting average.
Less well-known is Carew’s deeply spiritual side, which he discusses like never before in his new book, “Tough Out: Fighting Off Life’s Curveballs.” You’ll have the opportunity to hear Rod talk about his unique faith journey, and share about how his close personal relationship with God bore him up through a lifetime of adversity, deep sorrow, and “curveballs,” and formed the foundation of his success in baseball, and in life.
Please join us on October 27 at the Anaheim Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast and take inspiration from Rod Carew’s remarkable faith journey.

Prop. 13 Saves California Taxpayers $2.4B Each Year
Had Prop. 13 not been in effect over the past decade, California taxpayers would have been paying $2.4 billion more each year.
A report examining California’s local ballot measures that raised taxes found hundreds of initiatives passed over the past decade, costing taxpayers billions of dollars every year.
Local taxes or tax increases require voter approval in California, making any attempt to increase government revenue politically difficult.
The California Taxpayers Association (CalTax) tabulated not only successful ballot initiatives passed from 2010 to 2020 in its report, but also the measures that failed, finding an estimated $8.8 billion in annual tax hikes imposed.

EDD Reforms Sent to Governor
The Anaheim Chamber supports AB 110, passed unanimously by the State Senate and Assembly. The bill requires the Employment Development Department (EDD) to cross-check incarceration records with the CA Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation to prevent paying fraudulent benefits. EDD has failed to detect and prevent as much as $31 billion in fraud by inmates ineligible for unemployment benefits. AB 110 helps curtail organized fraud schemes.

The purpose of this webinar is to learn more about this group of entrepreneurs and the barriers they may encounter in starting their own businesses, and the resources available through the SBA.
During the webinar, Zoe Jacobson from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and Breanna Wakar from Insight Policy Research will present the data on how millennial veteran entrepreneurs differ from their non-veteran peers and veterans of previous generations.
We will also hear from Alex Salas, Business Development Specialist from the SBA OC/IE District Office, who will present the resources available from the SBA to start a business as a veteran.

Session 4. Funding and Business Ideas for Veterans
Many veterans transitioning back into civilian life consider starting a business.
The purpose of this webinar is to inform of the funding opportunities for veteran entrepreneurs and to present the top businesses that veterans have traditionally excelled in, such as franchises. Franchising is a popular business model, and it accounts for nearly 7.6 million direct jobs and 2.5% of US GDP. Matt Wiggins, Associate Manager from Vet Fran, is joining us to explain why veterans and franchising are a perfect fit.
Also participating in the webinar is Craig Russom, an SBDC Business Consultant, who will present the funding opportunities available from the SBA to start your business or take it to the next level.
In addition, Wendy Klug, the Director of the VBOC of the Dakotas, will introduce us to Julie Sattoff, a successful Veteran Business Owner who opened the first indoor swimming facility in North Dakota, Rocket Dogs K-9 Aquatics & Wellness.
* A Q&A will be available for the participants.
