SNAP Benefits in Question for November
Last week, we shared a letter from the Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) as well as an FNS memo indicating that Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits will not be issued for November. Today, a U.S. District Judge in Massachusetts has requested that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) decide and report by Monday, November 3 whether it will provide at least reduced SNAP benefits using contingency funds, or full benefits using additional funds. Similarly, a federal judge in Rhode Island ordered “the USDA to distribute contingency funds" and report back to the court by noon on Monday.
We are closely watching state and federal actions on SNAP and emergency food assistance supports and will continue to communicate updates as they occur. If you have any questions about how we can support you, please reach out to Lexie Kuznick, Director of Policy and Government Relations, or Chloe Green, Assistant Director of Policy.
