ACF Announces New Office of Family Violence Prevention and Services


The Administration for Children and Families (ACF) announced the creation of the Office of Family Violence Prevention and Services (OFVPS). This new office will focus on domestic violence prevention and address the intersections of domestic violence prevention work across systems.

Continued Support of Unaccompanied Afghan Minors under URM Program


Unaccompanied Afghan Minors (UAM) continue to be supported through the Unaccompanied Refugee Minors (URM) program. The Afghan Supplemental Assistance Plan permits the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) to serve URMs for the time described in the Refugee Act—until the month after the child turns 18 or the higher age prescribed by the state’s child welfare services plan. UAM may continue to be supported under the URM program if/when their humanitarian pole expires.

ACF & DOE Release Joint Letter on Educational Opportunities for Youth


ACF and the Department of Education (DOE) have released a joint letter that announces a re-engagement between the DOE and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to support educational attainment for youth. More information on the engagement will be shared in early 2023.

States, territories, and Tribal Nations are invited to apply for assistance through the Impact Project


The Office of Child Care (OCC) and the Child Care State Capacity Building Center are inviting states, territories, and Tribal Nations to apply for 2023's Impact Project. The program helps develop and expand the capacity for planning, investing in, and implementing quality early childhood systems, policies, and practices. The submission deadline is March 28.

FNS Proposed Rule Would Expand the Community Eligibility Provision


The Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) allows schools to provide free meals to all students without collecting household applications. This option is available to schools and districts where at least 40% of enrolled students are already directly certified for free school meals without submitting a household application. The Food and Nutrition Service's (FNS) proposed rule would lower this threshold to 25%. Written comments on this proposed rule should be received on or before May 8 to receive consideration.
