Community Services Block Grant Modernization Act of 2022 


Today, the House passed the Community Services Blog Grant Modernization Act of 2022 with a vote of 246-149. The Act would extend the Community Services Block Grant program through FY2031 and makes other changes to the program, including with respect to administration and leadership; performance measurement; and minimum and maximum allotments to states, territories, and tribes. The bill now heads to the U.S. Senate for consideration.

FNS Releases New Guidance to Assist States in the Development of P-EBT Plans for Summer 2022


The USDA Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) guidance provides information for how states can administer Pandemic EBT (P-EBT) Plans for the upcoming summer period, along with a Q&A about operating P-EBT during a covered summer period, and a P-EBT state plan template. States must have a school and/or child care P-EBT plan approved in the current year in order to administer Summer P-EBT.

HUD Expands Eviction Protection and Diversion Program


On Monday, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) announced $20 million in new grants for its Eviction Protection Grant Program, doubling the amount originally allocated for the launch of the Program in November 2021. The Eviction Protection Grant Program is part of HUD’s continued work to support families recovering from the public health and economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.

FNS Announces It Will Interpret the Prohibition on Discrimination Based on Sex to Include Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity


As a result of the new interpretation, state and local agencies, program operators and sponsors that receive funds from USDA’s Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) must investigate allegations of discrimination based on gender identity or sexual orientation and update their non-discrimination policies and signage to include prohibitions against this type of discrimination.

FNS Seeks Public Comment on Consolidation of Data Reporting Requirements under Programs Reporting System


USDA’s Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) has released for public comment proposed updates to programmatic and financial reporting reporting requirements under the Food Programs Reporting System, with the goal to give state agencies one portal for reporting all programs they operate. Comments will be accepted through June 8.

Social Sector Infrastructure Survey


The Urban Institute’s Center on Nonprofits and Philanthropy and the George Mason University’s Center on Nonprofits, Philanthropy, and Social Enterprise launched a research project to better understand the infrastructure that provides the social sector with these critical supports and services. As part of this research, a 10-25 minute field survey is open through Wednesday, May 25.
