The Office of Head Start (OHS) recently issued guidance including receipt of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits in the interpretation of “public assistance” when determining Head Start eligibility.

New Data Collection on Child Welfare Data Linkages


The Administration for Children and Families (ACF) is requesting approval from the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) for a new data collection activity on child welfare data, how it is linked to other agencies, and what barriers remain to linking child welfare data with other agencies. Comments are due by May 27.

USDA Launches RPN to Tap Resources for Rural America


The Rural Partners Network (RPN) is a collaboration between federal agencies and local leaders and residents focused on improving social and economic well-being, bolstered by existing local partnerships and assets. The RPN will launch in selected communities in Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, New Mexico, and certain Tribes within Arizona.

FNS Posts Guidance Clarifying SNAP General Work Requirements Amidst COVID-19 Safety Concerns


The USDA Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) provided general guidance to inform state agency determinations for good cause when Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) participants voluntarily quit a job due to COVID-19 safety measures or as a reaction to an employer’s vaccination requirement.

USDA Announces Intent to Establish Subcommittee on RCED for its Equity Commission


The new Rural Community Economic Development (RCED) Subcommittee will be charged with providing recommendations on issues and concerns related to rural development, persistent poverty, and underserved communities. USDA is soliciting nominations and applications for membership to the subcommittee until May 6.

FNS Posts Study and Evaluation Plan for FY 2022


The plan is a forecast of projects the USDA Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) expects to pursue in Fiscal Year 2022. Projects cover a variety of topics, such as supporting the transition to post-pandemic nutrition program operations, incorporating a racial equity lens into internal agency operations, and strengthening oversight and management of federal nutrition assistance programs.

USDA Opens SNAP PTIG Application to Improve SNAP Customer Service


This year’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) Process and Technology Improvement Grant (PTIG) applicants will be required to address specific priority areas, such as increasing the use of technology-based tools to expand enrollment of underserved populations. The request for applications is currently open and all applications must be submitted by June 27.
