WesternU students inspire young children during Mini-Medical School
WesternU College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific Pediatric Interest Group hosted its first in-person Mini-Medical School since Fall 2019. Mini-Medical School has allowed WesternU COMP students to hone their skills as future pediatric physicians while inspiring youth, kindergarteners through second graders, to one day become doctors themselves.

CPM holds Women in Podiatric Leadership Panel
The WesternU student chapter of the American Association for Women Podiatrists hosted a panel in honor of Women’s History Month. The online event was held on March 31, 2022.

COMP News
COMP Assistant Professor Jessie Atterholt, PhD, and COMP and CPM Associate Professor Mathew Wedel, PhD, co-authored "A CT-based survey of paramedullary diverticula in Aves." The article was published in The Anatomical Record.

This research represents the first-ever broad survey of paramedullary diverticula, small extensions of the respiratory system that invade the vertebral canal and sit in contact with the spinal cord.

COMP students Sangkyu Noh, Kevin Mai, Madeleine Shaver, Stanley Yong, and Mirko Mostaghimi, and Department of Translational Research Assistant Professor Mohamad Radwan Ahmed, MD, FRCS, collaborated with University of the Pacific pharmacy student Grace Oh on the publication "Emerging Cholesterol Modulators for Atherosclerotic Cardiovascular Disease," which was published in The American Journal of the Medical Sciences.

The late Vicki Wedel, PhD, of COMP and Matt Wedel, PhD, of COMP and CPM coauthored a peer-reviewed chapter, "Tooth cementum annulations method for determining age at death using modern deciduous human teeth: challenges and lessons learned," in the new book Dental Cementum in Anthropology from Cambridge University Press. 

Matt Wedel, PhD, of COMP and CPM was co-editor of a special issue of Acta Palaeontologica Polonica, "Boots and Burlap: Papers in Honor of Richard L. Cifelli." Dr. Cifelli, who recently retired from the University of Oklahoma and the Oklahoma Museum of Natural History, mentored Dr. Wedel in his undergraduate and Master's thesis research. Matt Wedel, PhD, of COMP and CPM gave a virtual public lecture on Jurassic dinosaurs on March 24 for the No Man's Land Historical Society in the Oklahoma Panhandle. View Talk

Health Systems Improvement – Scaling For the Globe, presented by Asaf Bitton, MD, MPH, executive director of Ariadne Labs, a health systems innovation center at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. He is an Associate Professor of Medicine and Health Care Policy at both Harvard Medical School and the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.
