Pomona 5K and 10K

Western University of Health Sciences served as a co-presenting sponsor of the ninth annual Pomona 5K and 10K on Saturday, Oct. 18, 2025. The event drew more than 1,100 participants, who ran, walked and rode on WesternU's Esplanade as part of the race course.

More than 180 WesternU students and employees joined Team WesternU through a promotional free registration giveaway. The free registrations were made possible by WesternU’s role as a co-presenting sponsor, along with additional support from the Student Government Association, the Office of the President, the Office of Community Benefit and Governmental Affairs, and Marketing & Communications.

Due to the strong response, WesternU created custom Team WesternU performance T-shirts, helping the University field a team doubling the size of previous years. The shirt graphic was designed by Graphic Design Manager Debra Nelson. Team WesternU, led by Multimedia Manager Jeff Malet, coordinated the giveaway and provided race updates leading up to the event, with help from Digital Marketing Communications Specialist Stephen Quintero.

In conjunction with the Pomona 5K and 10K, a Health and Wellness Resource Fair took place at Shaun Diamond Plaza during and after the race. Students and faculty from College of Podiatric Medicine provided foot screenings; the College of Optometry Lions Club offered vision screenings; the College of Pharmacy Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy Club conducted blood glucose and blood pressure screenings; the College of Graduate Nursing shared BMI and nutrition information; and the College of Health Sciences Physical Therapy Advocacy Club offered physical therapy screenings.
