We Stand With Law Enforcement Roundtable

This week, I hosted Sheriffs Don Hilton, Todd Hood, Kyle Bourgault, Jeffrey Brown, Patrick Engle, and Robert Milby in Oswego County for a roundtable and press conference to hear directly from those challenging Albany’s ban on local law enforcement partnerships with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement through the federal 287(g) program. Our sheriffs are on the front lines of keeping our communities safe, and Governor Hochul should not be standing between them and federal law enforcement. The Local Cops, Local Crimes Act takes this decision away from locally elected law enforcement leaders and prohibits partnerships that help them do their jobs. I will continue standing with these dedicated sheriffs as they fight to preserve their ability to work with federal law enforcement and ensure they have the tools, resources, and cooperation necessary to protect New Yorkers.

Adding New Constituent Resource on Trump Accounts

Every parent wants to give their child a strong start and the opportunity to build a successful future. That is why my office added a new Trump Accounts resource to my congressional website to help families across NY-24 understand the program, eligibility requirements, and where to find official federal information. Trump Accounts are tax advantaged accounts established for eligible children, and children born between January 1, 2025, and December 31, 2028, who meet federal eligibility requirements may receive a one time $1,000 contribution from the U.S. Treasury. My new resource provides families with clear information about how these accounts work and connects constituents directly with the official federal program so they can learn more about this new opportunity for their children.

As your representative in Congress, my top priority is championing legislative initiatives that benefit you and your families. Each week, I review numerous bills and letters, engaging in thorough discussions with members of our community to determine which actions to support and address your needs. Below are a few bills I recently cosponsored.

H.R. 2725, the Affordable Housing Credit Improvement Act of 2025: This bill would strengthen the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit by increasing state housing credit allocations, modifying financing requirements for certain projects, and making a series of reforms intended to make it easier to develop and preserve affordable housing. Increasing the housing supply is critical to addressing rising housing costs and expanding affordable options for working families, seniors, veterans, and all Americans. This legislation would spur greater housing investment, reduce barriers to housing development, and expand the supply of affordable homes in communities across the country.

H.Res. 737, Supporting the Designation of September 22 as “National Veterans Suicide Awareness and Remembrance Day” and Recognizing the Suicide Awareness and Remembrance Flag: This resolution would recognize September 22 as National Veterans Suicide Awareness and Remembrance Day to honor servicemembers and veterans who have died by suicide and raise awareness of military and veteran suicide. Our nation has a responsibility to remember the veterans and servicemembers we have lost and ensure those who are struggling know that their service, sacrifice, and lives matter. This resolution would help honor those lost to suicide, raise awareness of the challenges facing our military and veteran communities, and reaffirm our commitment to supporting the men and women who have served our nation.

H.R. 2499, to codify Executive Order 14248, “Preserving and Protecting the Integrity of American Elections”: This bill would give Executive Order 14248 the force and effect of law. This Executive Order established federal policies and requirements intended to strengthen election administration and security. Specifically, the order would direct action to require documentary proof of U.S. citizenship with the national mail voter registration form, to expand access to federal information for state and local officials verifying voter eligibility, and to establish standards promoting voter-verifiable paper records in voting systems. This legislation would make these requirements statutory rather than dependent solely on an executive order, preserving them beyond the current administration unless Congress later changes them.

H.R. 3443, the When Minutes Count for Emergency Medical Patients Act: This bill would strengthen emergency medical services by testing new Medicare payments to help ambulance providers maintain access to lifesaving medications and blood products. Specifically, it would establish a five-year payment model providing supplemental payments to participating ground and air ambulance services for the costs of maintaining supplies of critical EMS medications and blood products and require the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to examine Medicare reimbursement for EMS services, workforce shortages, and delays in transportation payments. When patients face life-threatening emergencies, ensuring first responders have immediate access to necessary funding and medications can be critical to saving lives. This legislation would help strengthen emergency medical services, improve access to lifesaving care, and ensure EMS providers have the resources necessary to respond when every minute counts.

Memorial Breakfast - Deputy Cailee Campbell

This week I joined the Oswego County Sheriff’s Office, law enforcement officers, family members, and community members for a memorial breakfast remembering Deputy Cailee Campbell, who tragically lost her life in the line of duty on September 25, 2024. Deputy Campbell was responding to a call when her patrol vehicle was involved in a collision in Volney, ending a life dedicated to serving and protecting others. Two years later, our community continues to remember Deputy Campbell and the service and sacrifice she gave to Oswego County. We are forever grateful to Deputy Campbell and stand with her family, friends, fellow deputies, and everyone who continues to carry her memory.

Successful Casework Story

A constituent contacted our office requesting assistance with an issue involving the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) that they had been unable to resolve for nearly a year. Our casework team reached out to the IRS on the constituent’s behalf, kept them updated throughout the process, and was able to help resolve the issue within a month:

"I received EXCELLENT service from [your staff]. He was absolutely amazing from our very first phone call, all the way through the end of the process. I had an issue with the IRS that I could not get resolved in almost a full year, and within a month, [your staff] had it resolved. His communication was TOP NOTCH! always keeping me in the loop. He set expectations for a timeline and always delivered on his promises. He was friendly and knowledgeable. Truly an asset to your team. Thank you again!"
