Backpack Drive to Support MFCA
Between April 1-June 30, 2019, Marin Children and Family Services placed 12 children in foster care. This was the highest number of Marin children to enter the dependency system in a 3 month period for several years.
Marin Foster Care Association's Community Resource Center is two office spaces packed with every item that a child needs to find comfort in a new environment, while helping Marin's foster families welcome a new person into their home. All items have been generously donated by corporate donors and the Marin community. Infant and toddler equipment, bed frames, clothes, shoes, diapers, toiletries, toys, games, school supplies, etc. In 2018 MFCA added a Monday shift and 2 additional hours to Wednesday's shift, growing their Open Hours to 13 each week, with three volunteers available for on-call visits to accommodate foster parents' busy schedules. In September 2019, they are adding a 4th volunteer and 2 more hours to the schedule.
Most children start the school year with new shoes, new clothes, new backpacks while enjoying the comfort of old friends and a familiar school. Foster children often face unfamiliar schools, teachers, friends and start the year with clothes and supplies that have seen better days. The simple gift of a new backpack can do wonders for a foster child's morale as they face an uncertain future at a new school. Thank you for your generous donation!
