During Covid-19, our policy is for all people to WEAR MASKS and SOCIAL DISTANCE for the duration of any worship/fellowship where we are gathered in person!

Weekly Devotions

Pastor Dave offers weekly devotions called "Church Where You Are" for individuals and families.  If you are unable to be at worship on Sunday, or if you are simply looking for a weekly family devotional, "Church Where You Are" is located on our Bethel website each week.

Worship on Sunday, September 27

Join us THIS SUNDAY (September 27 @ 9:30am) for OUTDOOR WORSHIP.  Our worship will also be streamed live via our Facebook page, YouTube channel or via the LIVE WORSHIP link to the Bethel website and will be available after the live stream in all three places.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Weather permitting, we will start holding outdoor worship every Sunday, starting September 13 at 9:30. Pastor Dave will make the call to cancel outdoor worship by Saturday evening in the event of inclement weather.

Volunteers are needed to help Dave Shoberg set up for outdoor worship each week. Volunteers are asked to be there at 8 am.

Volunteers are also needed to help Edie McGoff with traffic control, setting up the table (hand sanitizer, communion cups, offering baskets, song sheets), taking temperatures (using a touch-less thermometer) and clean-up after.

If you are willing to help, please email Pastor Dave.

200th ANNIVERSARY UPDATE

As you know, our 200th Anniversary as a congregation is this year, 2020. However, because of Covid-19, we are not able to celebrate it this year as we had originally hoped. Previously, we had identified Sunday, September 27 as a celebration date. However, because we cannot gather together in the manner in which we would want to for such a celebration, we have postponed the "in-person" celebration to 2021, at a date to be determined.

To honor this year, we are putting together a 200th Anniversary Video with pictures from our history and video clips from current and former pastors, members. Look for this to be completed and shared later this fall.

JONES/JOYNER MUSIC FUND

The Jones/Joyner Music Scholarship Fund honors the outstanding ministries of two individuals:  Larry Jones and Vernon Joyner.  Both led Bethel's music ministry.  The fund was established after Larry's sudden passing in the late 1990s, to support modest scholarships for university music students to play during worship and provide funds to add musicians for special services.  When Vernon Joyner retired, the fund was rededicated in recognition of his tremendous contribution to our music program.  Through the generosity of the congregation, this fund has brought us many talented musicians who have enhanced our worship music each Sunday.

Our current Jones/Joyner scholars are flutist Charlene Romano and bassist Alex Kimble.

The Jones/Joyner Music Scholarship Fund enables our music ministry to consistently provide quality music offerings in and outside of our regular worship gatherings. As the holidays approach, your continued donations to this fund will ensure that we can provide special music for the season. Would you consider making a one-time or continued donation to support our music ministry?

Checks can be made payable to Bethel with "Jones/Joyner Fund" in the memo. Thank you for your continued support of music at Bethel.

Harvest Sunday Update

Dear Bethel Community,

Your contributions of garden produce, crafts, treats, and generosity allowed us to contribute $2000 to Lutheran World Relief.  As you may recall, our donations are going specifically for LWR's work in Yemen and Lebanon.  The need is overwhelming in Yemen where 24 million people, 80 percent (honestly, to whom do you even turn?) of the country's population, stand in need of humanitarian assistance. The Citizens of Yemen have been literally caught in the crossfire of what is widely regarded as a proxy war between Saudi Arabia and Iran and others. Your donations will support projects focusing on waste management and rainwater collection to provide a clean and safe source of water.  The Beirut, Lebanon explosion August 4 destroyed three 40-foot shipping containers, holding more than 22000 LWR Mission Quilts, 100 cartons of School Kits, 300 cartons of Personal Care Kits and 125 cartons of Baby Care Kits that were being prepared for distribution. Your financial gift to LWR's World of Good emergency response fund will be a lifeline that provides food and shelter and helps get quilts and kits into hands that need them. With support from Thrivent as well as donations of produce from West Oaks Farm Market, Cline's Farm Market, and Solenbergers, 100% of donations have been sent to Lutheran World Relief.

After 19 years, the needs are still great, as was true 900 years past and I feel sadly but pragmatically confident saying will be true 900 years in the future. Truly we are called to better the life of those in distress today and to work to shape our world so as to minimize that distress in the future. Thank you for being people who work to make justice and compassion a priority in your lives. You always inspire me!

Next year, the 20th Annual Harvest Sunday!
