God’s dream

For weeks, we have been carefully keeping time.
Carefully lighting Advent candles week by week.
Carefully watching and waiting.

But suddenly, the story begins to get away from us.
Things start happening quickly,
too quickly to really keep up with.
Even before the birth of the baby,
everything has changed.

We are on God's time now
and we will never be the same.

We like to smooth out and sand off the edges of the Christmas story
but the story is a rough one, a scandalous one.

This coming Sunday we will gather around the story of Jospeh and Mary.
They are engaged – but she is pregnant.
Nothing could be more of a scandal and Joseph decides to dismiss her
but he doesn’t do it.

Why?

Because God tells him not to be afraid…
in
a
dream.

Joseph is a dreamer.

It turns out that the bible is full of dreams and dreamers
and many plot points of biblical stoires hinge on dreams.
.
As we head toward the Fourth Sunday in Advent, what is God’s dream for you?
What is God’s dream for this church community that we all love?

When God tells us in a dream,
“Quick!
Get up!
Go!”                Will we?

Or will we roll over and hit the snooze button one more time?

See you Sunday!
