Transformation
Have you noticed something unusual in the nave during Lent this year?
It started off as a mysterious tree limb hanging from the rafters in front of the altar on the first Sunday in Lent. On the Second Sunday in Lent, the branch sprouted a round woven object like an eyeball. On the Third Sunday in Lent, more woven circles popped out and now, it seems to be turning into something else entirely . . .wait till you see what it has become this week! And, God-willing, the week after that and the week after that and the week after that...
While keeping an eye on this collaborative art installation that is continually growing and changing into something brand new, we might consider how God is guiding and transforming us during Lent this year.
What are we being called to let go of and what are we inviting in? Is there a holy metamorphosis taking place that we might embrace? Are we being invited to "die to self," to let God take the lead so that we might unfold into the people that God intended?
What would it look like to earnestly pray, Thy will be done?
I love the Eugene Peterson translation of Luke 9:25 in The Message Bible: "What good would it do to get everything you want and lose you, the real you?"
Cathy Sterling and Tinnin Leskera have been guiding our children in the Godly Play classroom each week during Lent to create together this wondrous work of art, which ultimately, is a Lenten story unfolding before our eyes.
All of you are welcome to join us in the children's loft to weave each Sunday during Lent (from ~9:50 - 10:30am). Also, this Sunday we will have weaving kits available in the narthex (lobby) for you to take home and weave. If you'd like for your creation to be part of our larger work, bring it back to church before Palm Sunday (April 2) and give it to Cathy, Tinnin, or me.
Remember, each and every one of us is and is a part of this beautiful story.
