This Week at Charlotte Lab School
Dear Parents,

Thank you to all the families who joined us at Assessment Night last week. I am so proud of how our parents, leadership team, and teachers came together to learn about how we can use assessment to better support our children. In case you missed it, you can view the presentation here.

I also want to encourage you to review the entire enewsletter because it contains A LOT of important information. In the Updates from the PTSO section, you will find everything you need to know about this week's Book Fair and Breakfast with Buddy as well as updates on student portraits and how to contribute candid photos for the yearbook. Please note that the Parent Party has been postponed until spring (details below).

On a final note, don't miss our Lab's Million Dreams video. It will make your day!

We are excited to bring back Book Bucks this year!  Families in need can purchase Book Bucks at a discounted cost of $2 per coupon. Each coupon has a value up to $5 and each student can purchase up to 3 (valued at $15). Book Bucks are also available to purchase at full price for any family who would like to use these instead of having their child carry around cash. Book Bucks are on sale in the front offices. Note: Change will not be provided to any students using Book Bucks.

Teachers will have wish lists of books that they would like to add to their classrooms, and these lists will be displayed at the BookFair. We hope that you will consider purchasing books for one of your child(ren)'s teachers.

We still need lots of volunteers to make it a success. Please sign up if you are able to help. Thank you!
Breakfast with a Buddy
Join us this Friday, October 26 from 7:45-8:30 am for Breakfast with a Buddy. Students may bring a special someone (Mom, Dad, Grandparent, etc.) to enjoy a sweet treat on the Lower School playground before school starts. This will also be the final day of the book fair at UNCC (Room 1104), so be sure to visit!

This event is for all families. Middle schoolers are welcome to attend the Breakfast with a Buddy and book fair at the Lower School campus, but they must be sure to arrive at the Middle School (parents must provide transportation) no later than 8:20 or they will be marked tardy.

If you are available to help with this event, please sign up. PARKING IS AVAILABLE IN THE GRAVEL LOT ONLY, following normal morning procedures. You may be ticketed or towed if you use one of the other lots.

Parent Party Postponed!
Oops! We see this is a busier time of year than we thought, so we have decided to postpone the Parents Party at Catawba Brewery until the Spring. It was such a fun event last year, and we want more parents to be able to participate. If you have paid for the event, the PTSO will be in touch to refund your money. We hope you enjoy the book fair and Breakfast with a Buddy this week!
We Need Your Photos for Yearbook!
With the school year in full swing, we are already gathering pictures for the 2018-19 Yearbook! The newly improved ReplayIt App is an easy way to share photos you’ve snapped on field trips, at club or sporting events, and in classes with our students and teachers in action. With events like the cardboard challenge, Marine week, visits to the Schiele Museum and so much more already behind us, please take a moment and share some of the images you’ve captured.

There is also a photo link if it’s more convenient for you to use.

Or if you like google drives you can upload them here.

Thank you for helping our community create and gather these memories!

Lab Spirit Night with the Hornets
Come and enjoy a night out with the Charlotte Hornets and Lab families on Saturday, November 17! The game starts at 7:00 pm and $5 per ticket will go directly back to the school. The first 40 Lab students to purchase tickets will receive an on-court half-time fan experience. View the flyer. Contact Lory Cobb if you have any questions. We hope to see you there!
The Wellness Series is brought to you by Brett Blumenthal .
Planning for a Healthy Halloween
Halloween is just around the corner. Although a few treats are to be expected and enjoyed, you and your family will benefit from taking a balanced approach to thwart off overdoing it. Here are some ideas:
  • Purchase candy no more than a day or two before Halloween to reduce temptations.
  • If you prefer not to give candy, a few healthier options to consider:
  • Nuts, raisins, pumpkin seeds
  • Granola, Clif for Kids, Kind Bars
  • Chips, popcorn or pretzels
  • Bubbles, pencils, stickers, Slinkies, etc.
