Dear Parents,
A special thank you to everyone who supported our school on #GivingTuesday. We are so fortunate to have such a generous and supportive Lab community helping us accomplish our goals. So far, we raised at least $25,000 for our Lab Innovation Fund, and the day isn't over yet, and there is still more counting to do. Once again, thank you for helping us make a strong start on our annual fundraising campaign.
If you haven't yet had a chance to make a donation to the Lab Innovation Fund, it is not to late! This year, we hope to raise $275,000 by May 31, 2018, which will provide essential funding for many of the programs and activities that make our school special and allow us to create a truly innovative learning environment. We depend on our families, friends, and community for their support so that we can accomplish our ambitious goals. Why does Lab need this additional financial support? Lab receives less than $7,000 per student from the state and county, yet we spend more than $9,000 per student.
You can find out more about the Lab Innovation Fund and Ways to Give on our website. Stay tuned for more information in upcoming eNewsletters. And, thanks again for making #GivingTuesday a huge success for Lab.
Sincerely,
Mary Moss Brown

WELLNESS UPDATE FROM MRS. WHELAN

More tips for healthy living from our guest writer.
Something Smells Fishy
There's good reason to make fish a regular part of your family's diet.
Fish is a high-quality protein that is low in saturated fat and contains important micronutrients, such as Vitamins B12 and D, Selenium, Potassium, Magnesium and Calcium. Most importantly, fatty fish and seafood are high in omega-3 fats.
Omega-3 fats improve heart health by reducing the risk of blood clots, decreasing triglyceride levels, slowing the growth of plaques in blood vessels, and lowering inflammation. They also benefit the brain by improving blood flow, lowering inflammation and reducing aggregation of proteins, a major cause of Alzheimer's. Their role in brain function is especially helpful for lowering risk of dementia, depression and cognitive decline, and improving focus and memory.
Since Omega-3s are not produced in the body, we must get them through our diet. Plant foods, such as walnuts and flaxseed contain omega-3s called ALA (alpha-linolenic acid), but the body must convert ALA into long chain fatty acids, called DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) and EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) to see the benefits. Unfortunately, this process is inefficient and doesn't provide the body with adequate levels of DHA and EPA. Fish, however, contains both DHA and EPA, making the omega-3s found in fish and seafood critical to your family's health and well-being.

We have posted our
November and December Lunch menus. Please note the change to Pizza Friday. While the new pizza lunch has been a hit, it is also a little more work than we had hoped, so we are going to scale back to once a month. Our caterer will still be providing pizza on Fridays; however, the Pizza Fundraiser (with pizza from Domino's or Papa John's) will now be the last Friday that we are in school each month.

We are so grateful to everyone who has donated items from our wish list. Teachers are still updating the list with current needs.
Check out the items we still hope to receive, and see if there is anything that you are able to donate.

It is that time of year again. Come and check out the lost and found items waiting to be claimed near the front office. Don't forget to label all outerwear and water bottles. Please also take a look at the clothes that you have and make sure you don't have another student's clothes by accident. A few parents have mentioned missing clothing that is labeled; those blue hoodies tend to all look the same! All unclaimed items will be donated on December 20.
