This is the time of year to be thankful, and the number one thing that Mrs. Tunick and I are thankful for this week is our two newest faculty members! Welcome Donna Jordan and Paola Peguero to the Lab community.
Donna Jordan, Dean of Students,
is joining us with more than 20 years of experience in school settings and day treatment facilities, specifically working with students and families to support them with emotional, social, and behavioral needs. She has dedicated her life to working with individuals and groups to help identify problems, resolve conflicts, and connect with community resources in order to improve their overall school performance and well-being. Ms. Jordan was most recently working with Communities in Schools as a Site Coordinator, supporting at-risk students at Reid Park Academy. In the past week, she has been observing classrooms and meeting with staff and students; she is looking forward to diving into discipline and restorative conversations and continuing to strengthen student culture and behavior in the new trimester. Ms. Jordan will also be providing additional advisory support to grades k-5.
Paola Peguero, Spanish Teacher (grades 4-6),
recently moved from Boston, MA where she received her Master's Degree from Boston College in Curriculum and Instruction and served as a Donovan Urban Teaching Scholar. She has taught Spanish, math, and reading in middle and high schools throughout Massachusetts and most recently taught Spanish I and II classes at Boston Collegiate Charter School. Ms. Pegeuro is teaching 6th grade Spanish at the middle school, and she has joined the 4th and 5th grade Spanish team at the lower school.
We are so pleased to have them both on board! And, while we do not have final news to share on our 6th grade open math position, we have a promising candidate, and we are cautiously optimistic that we will be able to announce the hire next week. Stay tuned!
Have a Happy Thanksgiving!
Sincerely,
Mary Moss Brown

2018/19 APPLICATION FOR ADMISSIONS PREFERENCE
Please
complete ONE application for any SIBLING of a student currently enrolled at Charlotte Lab School, or any child of a current Charlotte Lab School employee or Board member. The State of NC defines SIBLING as children who share at least 1 parent, children whose parents/legal guardians are legally married, or any children who reside in a family foster home.
As stated in our
Enrollment & Admissions Policy, Charlotte Lab School desires to create a school community where whole families learn together. Siblings of currently enrolled students will receive priority for admission if their applications are received by the designated deadline and Lab has seats available. If the number of siblings exceeds the number of available seats in a grade level, a separate sibling preference lottery will be held to determine which students are admitted.
All applications must be submitted by 11:59 pm on Wednesday December 13, 2017 to be eligible for the admissions preference.

We have posted our
November and December Lunch menus. Please note the change to Pizza Friday. While the new pizza lunch has been a hit, it is also a little more work than we had hoped, so we are going to scale back to once a month. Our caterer will still be providing pizza on Fridays; however, the Pizza Fundraiser (with pizza from Domino's or Papa John's) will now be the last Friday that we are in school each month.

We are so grateful to everyone who has donated items from our wish list. Teachers are still updating the list with current needs.
Check out the items we still hope to receive, and see if there is anything that you are able to donate.

It is that time of year again. Come and check out the lost and found items waiting to be claimed near the front office. Don't forget to label all outerwear and water bottles. Please also take a look at the clothes that you have and make sure you don't have another student's clothes by accident. A few parents have mentioned missing clothing that is labeled; those blue hoodies tend to all look the same! All unclaimed items will be donated on December 20.
