MAY 15 - IN THIS ISSUE
NEWS FROM CALIFORNIA
Dear Families,

Thanks to everyone who attended tonight's first Multicultural Night! The event was a huge success thanks to our World Language Team, the many other faculty who worked on the planning and preparation, and most of all, the Lab parents and students who came and shared their stories and culture with our Lab community. We are excited to begin what we hope will be a long Charlotte Lab School tradition of honoring and celebrating the histories and backgrounds that make us unique and that will enrich the lives of our children.

Kendra Johnson and I were incredibly disappointed to have missed this important event; we traveled today to San Francisco to participate in NewSchools Venture Fund's Annual Summit. For the next two days, we will have the opportunity to learn from and alongside innovative schools from around the country. NSVF has been an important early supporter of our school and recently reaffirmed their belief in our model with an additional $250k gift that will support our middle school launch and many of our innovative initiatives. We spent several hours today sharing mistakes and lesson learned in the early implementation process and look forward to two more days of thought-provoking speakers and discussion. We plan to bring our new ideas and experiences back to share with Lab faculty and students.

I look forward to being back at Lab on Friday!

Sincerely,

Mary Moss Brown
Head of School

WELLNESS UPDATE FROM MRS. WHELAN
Wellness Week &
Summer Safety Tips

With Wellness Week upon us and the end of the school year fast approaching, we thought it would be a great time to help outline some simple ways we can keep our kids safe and out of harm's way this summer. We will also share mindfulness and wellness tips each day this week through our advisory program.

Be sure to ask your children about the new things they are learning this week in their classrooms and small groups. Here are some of the topics we are covering, plus some parent tips:
Sincerely,

The Wellness Team

VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION BREAKFAST
Please join us for breakfast as we say thank you to all of our fabulous Charlotte Lab School volunteers. We could not have accomplished all that we did this year without your help, support, and enthusiasm!!

Come to the music room on Friday, May 19 from 8:30-9:30 am so that we can thank you in person. And the best part is that you don't need to bring/donate/do anything!

Please sign up here to let us know you are coming. On Friday morning, you may park in the gravel lot (422 E. 9th Street) if you get a temporary pass from the office. Please do not park in the lot across from the main entrance (300 E. 9th Street) as these spots are reserved for staff and require a separate permit.

Hope to see you Friday!

TALENT SHOW UPDATE
With the end of the school year quickly approaching, we are sadly not able to reschedule a full  talent  show for this year. Parents of all of the children who had signed up to participate received an email last week detailing the change.

If your child attends after school on Thursdays and would like to participate, the after school team will hold a  smaller version of the talent show on  Thursday, May 18  from  4:30-5:30 pm . As the earlier email stated, you must email after school by Monday, May 15 in order to participate. Please include your child's name and attach the music file for your child's act if he/she needs music. The first 20 acts to respond will be included in the  show.

If your child doesn't participate in after school on Thursdays but is desperate to share their  talent, please email after school. They may be able to participate if there is space available. We will let you know!
