Extended Deadline: Education-focused Projects for John McCahan Medical Campus Education Day

 

BUMC faculty, fellows, residents, students and staff who are interested in educational innovations and scholarship are invited to submit an abstract or workshop proposal of ongoing or completed projects. Projects centered around education, such as (but not limited to) teaching and learning, clinical training, and assessment and evaluation, are welcome. The new deadline to submit is Tuesday, April 22.


To submit a project focused on education:

  • Workshops (Workshops will run on Tuesday, May 20, and have the option of being in-person OR virtual)

Faculty Development Seminar: Surviving and Thriving in Academia as an Introvert

NWP helps faculty develop narrative skills, confidence and compassion through reflective writing, literary analysis and workshops, guiding them to craft and revise non-research pieces, such as essays, fiction or poetry, suitable for publication. Join the Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine community for a virtual symposium honoring Dr. Rebecca Lee Crumpler’s trailblazing legacy as a scholar, activist and the first Black woman to earn a medical degree in the United States. 


Keynote: "Teamwork: Pillar of Resilience"         

 

Sheila Chapman, MD, clinical associate professor of medicine, assistant dean of admissions, director of the Early Medical School Selection Program, and associate chair of diversity and inclusion in the department of medicine, Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine.

 

Dr. Chapman will share insights regarding the role of teamwork that promotes resilience, academic opportunity and joy in academia. A panel discussion will follow the keynote. 

 

About Rebecca Lee Crumpler, MD: Dr. Crumpler graduated from New England Female Medical College in 1864 which later merged with Boston University in 1873 to become Boston University School of Medicine. She was the first Black female physician to graduate from a U.S. medical school. She focused on the relief of the sufferings of others and she chose to provide treatment and care, particularly to women and children, regardless of their ability to pay.
