Call for Nominations: Annual Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine Awards
At the end of each academic year, the school recognizes faculty for their excellence in teaching and service.
In the spirit of gratitude and reflection we invite you to nominate faculty for the following awards:
- Educator of the Year
- Stanley L. Robbins Award for Excellence in Teaching
- Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Accessibility (DEIA)
- Resident Educator of the Year
- Leonard Tow Humanism in Medicine Award

AOA Accepting Nominations for Faculty, Residents and Fellows
The school chapter of Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) National Medical Honor Society is accepting applications for faculty members, residents and fellows for induction into AOA.
Please submit nomination letters for deserving candidates that outline their academic, leadership, service and professionalism accomplishments in the BU/BMC community. Residents must have finished their PGY-1 year, and faculty must be faculty at the school.
Nominations also must include the nominee’s CV as well as the nominator’s name, role at BU/BMC and relation to the nominee.
For consideration, please send nominations to alumcamed@bu.edu by March 1.

Distinguished Faculty of the Month: To recognize faculty service to the Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine community, please submit your nominations here. All school faculty are eligible for nominations.
Distinguished Staff of the Month: To recognize staff who provide exceptional commitment and service to the Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine community, please submit your nominations here. All school and BMC staff who directly support the academic, teaching, and research missions of the school, (e.g., coordination of clerkship rotations) are eligible.

W Building Construction Project Update
Week of Feb. 5
Next week crews will continue building Air Handler 4, Konvekta Energy Recovery System and associated piping on level 10. Crews will also continue installing water piping, conduit and duct work on level 11. The team will be using the large freight elevator to bring up pieces of equipment throughout the week. If any occupants anticipate large deliveries, please contact Dylan McIntosh. The expected impact should be similar to what was experienced this week.

Faculty RSVP for 2024 Master's, MD & PhD Convocations
The 2024 convocation ceremonies for Master's, PhD and MD students are just around the corner. The GMS Master's Ceremony will take place on May 16 at 10 a.m. and the MD & PhD Ceremony will be held on May 16 at 3 p.m. Both Ceremonies will take place at the BU Track and Tennis Center.
If you plan to march in the MD & PhD Convocation Ceremony, the GMS Master's Convocation Ceremony, or both, you must fill out this form in order to RSVP. On this form, you also will be able to request Commencement regalia be ordered on your behalf. Everyone marching in any commencement ceremony must wear regalia in order to participate. If you are marching in both the MD & PhD and the Master's ceremonies, you only need to fill out the form once.
RSVP is required by midnight on Friday, Feb. 19.

A Conversation on Racism in Medicine with Dr. Uché Blackstock

In honor of Black History Month, please join us for a special event with Uché Blackstock, MD, physician, health equity advocate, and author of the new book Legacy: A Black Physician Reckons with Racism in Medicine. Dr. Blackstock appears on air regularly as an MSNBC medical contributor and was a leading speaker at BMC Health System’s EQTY 2023: A Summit for Health Justice.
Dr. Blackstock will share firsthand insights on inequities that exist in the U.S. healthcare system and the barriers that Black patients and physicians continue to face within the system.

Art Days 2024
Date: Tuesday-Wednesday, Feb. 20-21
Time: 3-5 p.m.
Location: Instructional Building, Hiebert Lounge (L14)
Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to submit artwork of any medium to the 34th annual BUMC Gallery for the Arts, sponsored by the Provost's Office. Art Days was started by Dean Emeritus Chobanian to foster the support and growth of the creative arts at BUMC. The exhibition is mounted by the Creative Arts Society. To be placed on the "submit list" or if you have any questions, please contact Dr. Keith Tornheim at tornheim@bu.edu or 617-358-4172.
Artwork (paintings, photos, poetry, sculpture, needlework, etc.) will be collected on Friday, Feb. 16. Pieces should be framed if possible. Security will be provided. Work will be returned Thursday, Feb. 22. Specific instructions will be sent at a later date to those who respond to this announcement.
