Call for Abstracts and Workshop Submissions: McCahan Day 2024


BUMC faculty, fellows, residents, students and staff who are interested in educational innovations and scholarship are invited to submit an abstract or workshop proposal of ongoing or completed education projects for the 19th Annual McCahan Medical Education Day. The deadline to submit an education project is Friday, April 12.

 

Theme: Building Collaborative Education Research

 

Keynote Speaker: Binyomin Abrams, PhD, Research Associate Professor, Director of General Chemistry, College of Arts & Sciences, Boston University

W Building Construction Project Update


Week of March 11

Next week crews will continue installing Air Handler 4 along with piping and wiring. Additionally, crews will be building curbs for ductwork, running pipe and electrical on the roof. Crews will also be utilizing the freight elevator to bring in materials and equipment. The expected impact for next week is similar to what was experienced this week.

Norrina Allen, PhD, is the Quentin D. Young Professor of Health Policy and a professor of epidemiology and pediatrics in the department of preventive Medicine at Feinberg School of Medicine, Northwestern University. She is the director of the Institute for Public Health and Medicine (IPHAM) Center for Epidemiology and Population Health and co-director of the Data Science Hub of the Institute for Innovations in Developmental Sciences (DevSci). She received her PhD from Yale University.  


Dr. Allen is a leader in many cardiovascular prospective cohorts including Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis (MESA) and Coronary Artery Risk Development in Young Adults (CARDIA) as well as consortia utilizing electronic medical records data. Her research takes a life course approach to understanding the development of cardiovascular disease, particularly in examining blood pressure, a major risk factor for cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disease.  


A guiding principle of all her work is the importance of prevention to reduce the burden of cardiovascular disease. Based on this work, Dr. Allen has been honored with the William B. Kannel Lectureship on Preventive Cardiology by the American Heart Association to be presented this year at the American Heart Association’s Cardiovascular Epidemiology and Lifestyle Scientific Sessions in March 2024.
