CDC Director Rochelle Walensky to be MD/PhD Convocation Speaker
Rochelle P. Walensky, MD, MPH, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and administrator of the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry, was announced as the convocation speaker for the MD/PhD ceremony during the Match Day festivities. In addition, the MD Class of 2023 selected Divya Satishchandra as their student speaker.

AOA Accepting Nominations for Faculty, Residents and Fellows
The School chapter of AOA is currently accepting nominations for faculty members as well as residents and fellows for induction to AOA.
Please fill out the following forms to nominate deserving candidates to AOA to honor their achievements and contributions to the BU/BMC community. Residents must have finished their PGY-1 year, and faculty must be faculty at the school. Please submit all nominations by March 20!

Retirement Reception for Vanesa Pliura

Please join us to celebrate the many contributions of Vanesa Pliura, who has announced her plans to retire after serving for 19+ years as executive assistant in the BUMC Provost and Dean’s Office.
Vanesa joined our community in January 2004 when she was hired to work in the Dean’s Office by Dean John McCahan. Vanesa’s last day will be April 5, after which she will enjoy her favorite activities of traveling, swimming, walking and growing more than 150 dahlias in her garden in Rockport, Massachusetts, as well as in a community garden in Boston’s South End.

Provost Workshop on Accessibility: Transforming BUMC's Culture around Disability for Faculty and Staff

The workshop will focus on promoting inclusive excellence and allyship for faculty and staff with disabilities. We highly encourage representatives from all units/sections/departments to attend.

If you are a staff or faculty member interested in serving as a panelist to discuss your personal and professional experiences and opportunities to improve equity and inclusion for faculty and staff who have disabilities at BUMC, please contact our office BUMCFDD@bu.edu or fill out the registration form by March 17. Panelists will receive questions in advance and may choose which questions to address.
The purpose of the workshop is to:
- Identify challenges/opportunities to advance accessibility for faculty/staff in all units at BU School of Public Health, Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine, and Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine.
- Define how and why inclusive excellence encompasses accessibility and how universal design benefits everyone.
- Individually commit to promoting equity and inclusion for faculty and staff with disabilities at BUMC.
- Institutionally develop potential next steps to advance accessibility for faculty and staff.
