Academy of Medical Educator for MD/PhD Cohort
The Medical Education and Student Affairs Offices are seeking one clinician scientist faculty with teaching experience to join the Academy of Medical Educators (AMEs) to serve as core faculty in the Doctoring 2 Course and a coach for the MD/PhD students during their clerkship year.
AMEs are hired starting July 1, 2025, at the rate of $21,210 plus fringe for 47 half days/year. The commitment is one afternoon per week throughout the calendar year, as well as required faculty development and team meetings that occur throughout the year. AMEs teach communication, physical exam, clinical reasoning and critical scientific inquiry skills to MD/PhD students in the Doctoring courses. The course design is primarily case-based small groups (eight students) with role play, standardized patients and skills training. AMEs are assigned a cohort of eight third-year students who they coach during the clerkship year.
This role requires teaching and assessing the full scope of skills students need to enter and succeed during the clinical phase of the curriculum. Ideal applicants are MD or equivalent faculty who are passionate about research, clinical medicine and teaching, mentoring and supporting students’ professional development as clinician scientists. Applicants should have experience with biomedical research, teaching and mentoring.

We will review any previous teaching evaluations as part of the selection process. If you have never taught in the MD curriculum but have taught PhD, master’s students, residents, etc., please send 2-3 evaluations from the last three years with your application.

Our student and trainee population face many stressors including academic and financial responsibilities, work-life balance, and socializing. In addition, faculty members are charged with many teaching, research, clinical and service responsibilities which can lead to burnout. These challenges may negatively affect how someone may manage everyday responsibilities and daily interactions with colleagues and the audiences being served. Using positive psychology-based interventions can be a helpful way to navigate these challenges and mitigate potential negative outcomes. This interactive workshop will provide you with the background and application of positive psychology principles that can be implemented into regular daily practice.
