New Support Pathways for BU’s Global Community
Boston University has launched BU Support Pathways, a new resource for students, faculty and staff concerned about safety, privacy or immigration status. The program offers a free initial legal consultation with an external immigration attorney for eligible community members, guidance on summer housing, and access to reliable information and resources.

BUMC Narrative Writing Program (NWP)

NWP helps faculty develop narrative skills, confidence and compassion through reflective writing, literary analysis and workshops, guiding them to craft and revise non-research pieces, such as essays, fiction or poetry, suitable for publication. Call for Application to Assistant Dean Position in Faculty Affairs
The Faculty Affairs Office of BU Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine (FAO) is seeking a 25-30% FTE Assistant Dean of Faculty Affairs. Reporting to the Associate Dean of Faculty Affairs, the assistant dean will support and enhance existing programs and develop and implement new initiatives to support our diverse faculty for their academic advancement and career satisfaction.
Responsibilities Include:
- Support and contribute to the faculty appointments and promotions processes by reviewing and facilitating faculty appointments and promotion (FAP) packages, specifically the dossiers at the rank of associate and full professors.
- Organize and develop workshops to educate and train 24 departmental FAP chairs on promotion criteria and steps involved in FAP.
- Maintain and track faculty data in SAP, BU’s organizational program, and create quarterly and annually dashboards of faculty reporting data that can be used for reports, evaluation of timely faculty promotion and advancements.
- Support faculty recognition by actively participating in the school’s annual faculty awards and lead faculty nominations for the regional, national and international awards.
- Review the school faculty policies, strategic plans and bylaws to ensure relevance and continued applicability to current and changing circumstances, and as appropriate, recommend needed policy changes.
- Participate in school, campus and university-wide implementation of faculty development programs and systems to support our faculty.
- Assist with upcoming LCME standards relevant to faculty.
Qualifications:
- PhD, MD or MD/PhD degree
- Associate or professor rank
- Experience mentoring and advising faculty members, soliciting faculty needs and implementing initiatives and effective administrative skills
- Strong collaborative, oral and written communication and data management skills
- Commitment to teamwork

Annual Faculty Reviews
Per Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine Bylaws and LCME accreditation, all full-time faculty members must meet annually with their supervisors to review their progress toward promotion, receive constructive feedback, and set goals for the upcoming academic year.
This year’s annual review covers calendar year 2024 (Jan. 2024 – Dec. 2024). Please meet with your supervisors as early as you can, but no later than August 31, 2025.
The web-based evaluation form is at https://www.bumc.bu.edu/facdev.
Please note:
- You can note if your department uses an alternative evaluation form and upload relevant materials.
- You can change the supervisor, if incorrect.

The “Welcome” page links to the Faculty Checklist, which lists required compliance and/or training for medical school faculty. The checklist now allows you to track your activity completion date, if desired.
- The “Welcome” page has required info for final submission after your face-to-face meeting.

The 2024 External & International Activity Report (EIAR) is now open and is required before final submission.
