RISC Virtual Town Hall – Open to All Students, Staff and Faculty

Date: Thursday, Nov. 20

Time: 9:30-11 a.m.

Virtual Meeting: Zoom

Register here

Faculty, staff and students are invited to a virtual town hall being organized by the Research Infrastructure and Strategy Committee (RISC). RISC is working in partnership with a BMC working group to identify ways to make the research enterprise at the medical school and hospital as efficient and streamlined as possible.

We need your input regarding ways to improve efficiencies, eliminate redundancies and enhance research activities. It is important that everyone involved in the research enterprise participate, regardless of position title or rank.

Some of the questions that we will ask attendees to brainstorm around include:

  • For faculty investigatorsHow can we enhance what is working well in research infrastructure? (Consider pre- and post-award, cores, admin support, OS forms, regulatory activities, etc.). What are the barriers that limit your ability to submit more grants, and how can these be addressed?

  • For staff researchers: What can be done at a systematic level to more efficiently utilize lab/ department/ school resources? What redundancies or inefficiencies do you encounter in managing your lab tasks (e.g., ordering, compliance, etc.)?

  • For faculty educators and students: How can we better reach untapped sources of potential master’s students? What focused new areas could we develop master’s programs in?

  • For departmental/research/ educational administratorsWhat new research infrastructure would streamline or improve research management? What process upgrades or other changes could help you perform your job more efficiently?

Questions? Contact co-chairs Rachel Fearns or Donald Lloyd-Jones.

Faculty Recruitment for a Multi-Institutional Study

We are looking for faculty to participate in a 60-90 minute Zoom focus group for a multi-institutional medical education study geared towards understanding faculty perceptions around the purpose of undergraduate medical education. All school of medicine faculty are invited to participate.

We are exploring the challenges of learning in medical school and how faculty experience and react to the specific challenges of teaching in undergraduate medical education. We aim to understand these experiences so that we can enhance the efficacy and efficiency of undergraduate medical education.
