RISC Town Hall - Open to All Students, Staff and Faculty

Students, staff and faculty are invited to a town hall being organized by the Research Infrastructure and Strategy Committee (RISC). RISC is working in partnership with a BMC working group to identify ways to make the research enterprise at the medical school and hospital as efficient and streamlined as possible.
We need your input regarding ways to improve efficiencies, eliminate redundancies and enhance research activities. It is important that everyone involved in the research enterprise participate, regardless of position title or rank.
Some of the questions that we will ask attendees to brainstorm around include:

For faculty investigators: How can we enhance what is working well in research infrastructure? (Consider pre- and post-award, cores, admin support, OS forms, regulatory activities, etc.). What are the barriers that limit your ability to submit more grants, and how can these be addressed?

For staff researchers: What can be done at a systematic level to more efficiently utilize lab/ department/ school resources? What redundancies or inefficiencies do you encounter in managing your lab tasks (e.g., ordering, compliance, etc.)?

For faculty educators and students: How can we better reach untapped sources of potential master’s students? What focused new areas could we develop master’s programs in?

For departmental/research/ educational administrators: What new research infrastructure would streamline or improve research management? What process upgrades or other changes could help you perform your job more efficiently?

BU/BMC & NASEM Workshop: Supporting Careers of Faculty with Caregiving Responsibilities

BU is one of five universities selected by the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM) to host a site visit to share their national report on supporting faculty with caregiving responsibilities. During this visit there will be an interactive workshop where NASEM representatives will share key findings from their report, and together as a community, we will explore caregiving challenges on our campus, exchange solutions and develop actionable steps for institutional change. All BUMC and CRC faculty, administrators and leaders are welcome to attend.

20th Annual Raphael Miara Patient Safety Symposium

In this presentation, "State of Safety," Tejal Gandhi, MD, will assess patient safety trends across the country, highlighting data demonstrating improvement opportunities. Dr. Gandhi will discuss specific, innovative strategies to accelerate progress, including expanding the definition of harm to capture psychological, emotional, financial, and physical harm, and by strengthening safety culture and workforce engagement. She will also describe the strong connection between patient safety and patient experience.
