Please welcome the Rev. B.J Buracker, our guest celebrant and preacher this Sunday ! Fr. BJ was born locally in Olney, Maryland, but moved to the Pinehurst area of North Carolina in 1995 when he was 16. He is a graduate of Reformed Theological Seminary in Charlotte, NC in 2007, and more recently of Catholic University in 2017 with his PhD in Old Testament Studies. While at Catholic University, he taught a variety of introductory theology courses, helped create their academic coaching program, and served as the Associate Dean of their Metropolitan School of Professional Studies, which specializes in serving adult learners. BJ and his wife, Kimberly, have three daughters and a son. He currently serves as the Associate Rector at All Saints, Chevy Chase, and we are delighted he could be with us this Sunday!
Backpacks for Arcola Elementary Christ Church has worked with Arcola Elementary over the years making sure children in need are prepared for the coming school year by supplying prefilled backpacks. With these backpacks, parents who will be struggling to find money to cloth and feed their children, will not have to worry about school supplies. Please help fulfill this need by sponsoring a backpack – give a donation of $18 (checks made out to Christ Church –Backpacks in memo) to cover the cost of materials. Backpack Sponsor Envelopes can be found on the Outreach table. On August 25 th , please join us in the Undercroft following the 10am service to assemble 60 backpacks for delivery to Arcola Elementary on Monday the 26 th . Questions? Come join us for 30 minutes after work to pray!   Every Wednesday evening at 6:30 p.m., some of us come together for a brief time of Evening Prayer with Holy Eucharist. It combines the end-of-the day liturgy with familiar prayers and a time for personal meditation and communion. Organ Concert on September 6!!! On Friday evening, September 6, at eight o'clock, organist Theodore Guerrant will present a concert of "Great Organ Music from Great Britain." The program will consist of works by Grayston Ives, Norman Cocker, Samuel Sebastian Wesley, Alfred Hollins, William Wolstenholme, Charles Hubert Hastings Parry, Percy William Whitlock, Charles Villiers Stanford, Edward Elgar, and Herbert Sumsion. An English tea will follow the program. A free-will offering will benefit the parish music ministry. All are cordially invited to attend.

A fundraiser for cabinets and cupboards

We're raising money to upgrade our kitchen with a Tex-Mex Dinner and Silent Auction! The committee asks for bid items by 9:00 am Sunday, September 15, 2019. Please consider donating items such as sporting event tickets, a weekend/week away at your get-away place, wine or other gift baskets, tickets to kid activities or other items.
Items can be dropped off with Peter Hanke in the church office.

The Planned Giving and Endowment Committee oversees Christ Church's endowment, which funds capital needs and ministries beyond the scope of the annual operating budget of the church. Included are seed grants for new ministries. The committee invites proposals in August for a fall round of grants. As you commence the summer months, please consider ideas that can further our mission and apply!
