Christ Church to Shine a Light
on Christ’s Message of God’s Love!  

Labor Day Parade Preparation Sunday, 9/1 :  Help share Christ’s message of love by making signs for parade participants to carry. We have Good News to share and church programs to highlight.  Join us in the Parish Hall after ALL September 1 st Sunday services (8, 10 and 5) to write a short message on red, pink and white heart-shaped signs. “Be Kind.” “Love One Another.” “Love. Forgive. Repeat.”
Kensington Labor Day Parade Protocol, Monday, 9/2 : Let’s shine a light on Christ’s love! Join us to be a visible sign of Christ’s love. So, don your red and/or pink gear —t-shirt, shorts, walking shoes, hat, visor. Don’t forget sunscreen! Meet the Christ Church parade cars at (location to be announced soon) between 8:30-9:30 AM. In years’ past, we have been queued up in the neighborhood adjacent to St. Paul Park near Oberon Street and Wheatley Street. Coffee & Doughnut tailgating begins at 8:30! Pick up a heart-shaped sign and be ready to walk by 9:30 AM. Consider car-pooling from our church parking lot. Parking may be available on a lot on Concord Street, between Dupont Avenue and Plyers Mill Road.

We are truly looking forward to having you join us next Sunday 9/1 for sign making and then at the parade on Labor Day to shine your light!

Come join us for 30 minutes after work to pray!   Every Wednesday evening at 6:30 p.m., some of us come together for a brief time of Evening Prayer with Holy Eucharist. It combines the end-of-the day liturgy with familiar prayers and a time for personal meditation and communion. Come join us for a time of fellowship and prayer; see what a difference it makes in your week!

Organ Concert on September 6!!! On Friday evening, September 6, at eight o'clock, organist Theodore Guerrant will present a concert of " Great Organ Music from Great Britain." The program will consist of works by Grayston Ives, Norman Cocker, Samuel Sebastian Wesley, Alfred Hollins, William Wolstenholme, Charles Hubert Hastings Parry, John Ireland, Charles Villiers Stanford, Edward Elgar, and Herbert Sumsion. An English tea will follow the program. A free-will offering will benefit the parish music ministry. All are cordially invited to attend. 

Prime Timers Luncheon Resumes on September 5 The Prime Timers will meet in the church undercroft on Thursday, September 5th from 11:30 -1:30 for social time, lunch and to enjoy a speaker. The cost of the lunch is $10.00. Please RSVP to Nora Buckley at or 301-564-0689 by Tuesday, September 3rd to let her know you are coming and if you wish to order a lunch. The speaker will be Bill Offutt and the title of the presentation is: Richard Montgomery; a lecture on Montgomery County’s namesake.
IT’S ALMOST TIME FOR THE PARISH PICNIC! Annual Parish Picnic on Sunday, September 8th following the 10 a.m. service. This is always a fun event to mark the end of Summer and the beginning of our Fall activities. Hamburgers, veggie burgers, hot dogs, water and lemonade will be provided and we’re asking parishioners to bring side dishes and desserts.

A fundraiser for cabinets and cupboards

We're raising money to upgrade our kitchen with a Tex-Mex Dinner and Silent Auction! The committee asks for bid items and forms to be in by 9:00 am Sunday, September 15, 2019 . Please consider donating items such as sporting event tickets, a weekend/week away at your get-away place, wine or other gift baskets, tickets to kid activities or other items.
Items can be dropped off with Peter Hanke in the church office.

The Planned Giving and Endowment Committee The planned giving and endowment committee is now accepting proposals for a fall round of grants. If you have an idea for a new ministry, a capital need beyond the scope of the annual budget or a special, one-time project to further the mission of Christ Church, we welcome your application. Proposals will be accepted until September 15th. Contact Tim McLellan at or Sharon Bartram at for further information.
