FROM THE ORGAN LOFT

Join Us for Open Choir

this Sunday, Oct 20th

We're inviting everyone (4th grade and up) to be part of our special Open Choir Sunday this October 20th. No previous experience needed – just bring your enthusiasm and willingness to sing! Whether you're a seasoned singer or someone who only sings in the shower, there's a place for you.

When: Sunday, October 20th at 9:30AM

Where: Church Sanctuary

Who: Anyone 4th grade and up

Open Choir Debut

Our "open choir" will make its debut this week, performing a round by Mozart. This piece showcases Mozart's clear and easy-to-follow style, making it accessible for both performers and listeners alike.

Postlude: Fugue in A Major

The postlude this week will be Fugue in A Major. A fugue can be thought of as a sophisticated round, offering a delightful musical puzzle for the attentive listener.

Understanding the Fugue

To fully appreciate this Baroque masterpiece, try the following:

  1. Listen carefully to the opening melody.
  2. Follow this melody throughout the composition, noticing how it transforms:
  • It may appear at a slower tempo
  • You might hear it "upside down" (inverted)
  • It could be played in a higher register

This interplay of themes is what makes fugues so captivating and exemplifies the playful complexity of the Baroque period.

We hope you enjoy these musical offerings and the opportunity to deepen your appreciation of these timeless compositions.

Special Musical Offering for Stewardship Sunday

We are delighted to announce an extraordinary musical treat for our upcoming Stewardship Sunday:

Organ Duet Performance

I will be joined by colleague Christopher Dios in presenting a captivating organ duet. This unique performance will showcase the versatility and grandeur of our church's organ installations:

  • The intimate positive organ at the front of the sanctuary
  • Our magnificent Opus 12 organ in the Gallery

This duet promises to be a remarkable auditory experience, utilizing the distinct characteristics of both instruments to create a rich tapestry of sound that will fill our sacred space.

3. Please also continue paying your 2024 pledge to ensure the continuation of our mission and ministry.

Stewardship Sunday will be celebrated

Sunday, October 27!

We will have one service at 9:30am.

Join members of Christ Church for a “Packing Party”!

Supplies will be packed for the Choice Food and Resource Center this Sunday, October 20th

after the 9:30am service.

Can’t make it to the packing party, but want to help?

Donations of diapers in sizes 4, 5, 6, and 7 as well as adult incontinence products in all sizes are in constant demand.

Help Others “Ride in Love”!

Join four other parishioners who have already donated $43,500 for the repair/replacement of the Handi-Lift and allow all who enter Christ Church to either Walk or Ride in Love! In addition to the generous donations of these parishioners, our 50/50 Raffles and Jewelry Sale have raised an additional $3,096, bringing the grand total of funds raised for the repair to $46,596. This leaves us a little less than $13,000 to go!

If you would like to join those who will help close this funding gap and reopen Christ Church to all, independent of their physical abilities, please consider making a donation either through a check, Zelle or PayPal. Please designate your donation to “Ride in Love”.

Join the Tuesdayers next Tuesday, Oct. 22, at 7pm via Zoom for session 2 of the Renewal Works activities.

The Christ Church Grief Support Group Corner

Our next session is Tuesday, October 22 at 6pm.

This six-session series is for adults grieving the death of a loved one. The group includes education about grief and loss and provides participants an opportunity to share their experience.

Connecting with others hand-in-hand who are also grieving a loss can help you through this difficult journey. You will be provided with a safe, supportive environment for healing.

Using discussion and storytelling, can help you understand the grieving process and your emotions, as well as give you strategies for coping with guilt, anger and loneliness on special days and holidays.

It is recommended that participants wait at least two months after a death before attending a group.

There is no cost for attending this group and it is open to the public for registration.

Allow us to connect hand-in-hand with you!

6pm-7pm: October 22; November 19; December 17; January 7 & 21.

Running To Stand Still – Migrants Search For Hope In The Promised Land seeks to put a human face on the immigration “issue” by telling heartbreaking and inspiring stories about the migrants themselves—courageous and dignified human beings whose lives stand as a powerful rebuke to a narrative that is fraught with hatred, alarmist rhetoric, and dehumanizing stereotypes.
