The Word This Sunday
December 11, 2016 - Third Sunday of Advent
|
A note of joyful expectation marks today's worship. Isaiah announces that the desert shall rejoice and blossom. Jesus points to signs of God's reign: the blind see, the lame walk, lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear. We wait with patience for the coming of the Lord, even as we rejoice at his presence among us this day: in word and holy supper, in church and in our homes, in silent reflection and in works of justice and love. We pray that God would open our eyes and ears to the wonders of Christ's advent among us.

Pastor Monica's
Word on the Word
|
Jesus confirms John the Baptist's role as God's messenger, sent to proclaim "the One." Jesus is the one who brings God's favor and mercy to those who dwell in society's margins. God consistently welcomes and cares for the poor, over and above anyone we label as special. Jesus warns that God's actions are unpredictable: the Kingdom is for humble servants, not seekers of riches and power.

anonymous

A Big Thank You!
Epiphany recently donated several nursery items that had been unused for several years and were stored in a St. George closet to Chosen Vessel Ministries. Our new member Linda Barnes shares...
Thank You! Thank You! Thank You! We are grateful for the generous gift of nursery supplies, toys, art materials, and books! Rest assured - we need and will use every bit in our ministry with the women and children we are blessed to serve through Chosen Vessel Ministries. Please keep us in your prayers!

Holiday Outreach
We will be collecting items for three elderly single women here in Collierville who were referred to us th

"Reverse Advent Calendar" Project
This year, instead of getting a little treat every day during Advent, as we count down to Christmas, we are asking every family to participate in a 'reverse Advent calendar' project. Take a medium-sized box, and each day between 11/27-12/24, place an item in the box. This can be hygiene items like toothbrushes, socks, soap, hard candy, tissues, etc. The Outreach Team will collect the boxes for distribution to people in need. For more info, see Carol Rife.
