October 24th Sunday School Cancellation

Due to the recent cases of COVID-19 in our congregation I will be cancelling Sunday School on October 24. Based on the date of diagnosis and CDC guidelines we should be able to begin Sunday School again on October 31, Halloween (imagine that!). I appreciate your cooperation in wearing masks. I know that they can be uncomfortable but safety is essential. Protect yourself, protect the people you love, protect your faith community.

October is Neighbors In Need Month! In 2021, Neighbors in NeedUnfailing Love” offering is focused on supporting organizations and projects that are serving homeless and immigrant neighbors or communities. NIN funds support the Council for American Indian Ministry and the UCC’s Justice and Witness Ministries to provide funding grants to UCC churches and organizations leading justice initiatives, advocacy efforts, and direct service projects in their communities. Please prayerfully consider how you may be able to help. Special offering envelopes are in the narthex or you can designate a portion of your offering "NIN". You'll also find a Neighbors In Need designation on our Tithe.ly page.
A Letter from our
Conference Minister

Dear Colleagues and Friends,
I have a confession to make. I find wearing a mask very uncomfortable. There I said it and you can all admit it too. That being said, I wear my mask anyway – to the grocery store, to shop in other locations, to churches I visit, during in-person meetings unless everyone feels safe and comfortable without, and in worship. For me, wearing my mask is an act of loving my neighbor.
There are many among us, and we shouldn’t have to self-identify in every setting, who have family members, or are ourselves, immunocompromised. We do not feel safe without a mask and wish all the people in gatherings we attend would wear theirs as well. Even with a vaccination and a booster, breakthrough cases happen. As this virus continues to mutate, the vaccinations may become less effective. I do not want to risk carrying the virus to someone or from someone. My comfort is not worth someone’s serious illness or death.
People call the Conference Office all the time to find out what they should do. My recommendation – until we know that the virus is completely under control (and it is not!):
1.   wear a mask in public places (including churches),
2.   don’t sing in church without a mask,
3.   maintain 6 feet of social distancing,
4.   maintain attendance and contact information.
We can recommend but can’t mandate vaccines within the church. Even though almost all the hospitalizations and deaths in our region are a result of the Delta variant and are unvaccinated people, masks are still a good protection for all of us.
I know this will be a challenge for many of us. I know this is the United Church of Christ and I can’t “tell” you what you should do, but from the bottom of my heart, I ask you to follow the CDC, Department of Health and governmental guidelines. Please love yourself and love your neighbor.
