TRAIN FOR RAIHN & our next RAIHN WEEK

Learn how you can join other church members in helping temporarily homeless families get back on their feet. Attend a training session on Wednesday, June 8th, 6:30-8:30 PM at New Hope Free Methodist Church, 62 North Union St, Rochester. RSVP to Jen Canning, coordinator@raihn.org or 506-9050.

Even if you haven't been trained, you are welcome to help with set up, clean up, or laundry. Sign up in the lounge after church on Sunday, or contact Chris DeGolyer, chrisdeg@frontiernet.net. *Rochester Area Interfaith Hospitality Network: helping homeless families achieve sustainable independence

Grand Opening of Clara's Cupboard
|
Join us on Monday, June 20th at 12 noon for the grand opening of Clara's Cupboard, a little free library and pantry, which will be located in the front garden of the church. Come celebrate with us! A ribbon cutting will take place at noon, with lemonade and cookies served from 12-1.
This is a wonderful way to share great literature with our downtown neighborhood, as well as seasonal items such as fresh veggies from our garden during the summer, or mittens during the winter.
Once Clara's Cupboard is up and running, stop by any time to borrow a book, or consider leaving a book worthy of sharing!

ADULT FAITH DEVELOPMENT - PART 3:
June 9
th
from 6-8 PM in the Clara Barton Lounge. We will watch Part 3 (The House We Live In) of California Newsreel's 3-part documentary about race in society, science, & history, to be followed by facilitated discussion and conversation. Teens are welcome and encouraged to attend. Please RSVP to Michelle Yates (
edu@uuroc.org
). Childcare is
available if requested one week in advance.
FOOD INGATHERING: This coming Sunday, please consider bringing a non-perishable food item to be collected during the service and then delivered to the Community Food Cupboard, which provides monthly food service to qualified seniors and emergency provisions to families in need. Just a friendly reminder to check expiration dates on donated items. Thank you for your generosity!
MEMORIAL WALK:
We miss Lauretta so much!
In memory of her birthday on June 17th, friends of Lauretta Young will be gathering at Ontario Beach Park for a walk and casual picnic. We will meet at the Sailboats sculpture around 6:15 p.m. and start out at 6:30 p.m. for a walk
to the Lighthouse (about a half hour walk), and back, returning to the park for a casual picnic dinner. All are asked to bring your own brown bag supper, or pick it up at one of restaurants or concessions in the park. Please bring lawn chairs or blankets as tables may be in short supply. Questions, contact Shirley Bond (
bondshirl@yahoo.com
) or Marcia Weaver (weaverma2@gmail.com). In the event of light rain, we are still on. In the event of a storm, a rain date will be arranged later.
NEIGHBORHOOD PILGRIMAGE UPCOMING: A pilgrimage need not take place in a faraway holy city. On Saturday, August 20th, from 9 to noon, there will be a chance to embark on a unique walk around our own church neighborhood. Our journey will take us to nearby places “on the margins”-- spaces of human and environmental vulnerability around us. It will include prayer/ meditation, journaling, and space to process together in response to what we see. We will be led by Deacon David Palma, of St. Mary’s Church. The walk covers a distance of about 2 miles. If you are interested in attending, please e-mail Rev. Celie (
minister@uuroc.org
) by June 19th. We will take the first 10 RSVPs we receive.
SAVE THE DATE:
July 16th at 1:00pm is the 2016 Pride Parade! Come out to see your favorite community bands, floats, kings & queens, politicians, churches, community groups, and more.
OVERDUE BOOKS: The church bookstore and library will be open in the Clara Barton lounge during Sunday coffee hour through June 19th. If you have borrowed books from the church library and not yet returned them, please return them before the end of the regular church year. Also, the Library Committee will reduce its inventory of used books for sale after June 19th, so you might want to check the church bookstore’s used book shelf.
WANTED: The Communications Committee is looking for volunteers with video editing and filming expertise. Please let Lisa Gwinner (gwincourt@gmail.com) know if you are able to help!
